It is getting scary in Boston..

They had a "big" demonstration at my son's college in North Texas. At least he had the good sense to realize it was such a joke. First, the "walk out" occured when class was due to end. Then he said they all assembled in a group-about 10 people who believed in the cause, and another 100-200 standing around getting caught up in the "fun" of skipping class. I'm not proud to admit that I was one of the Vietnam Protesters in Massachusetts in college-demonstrating in the streets. Did I know why? No-and I didn't care! Unfortunately, it was just a neat way to meet guys, miss class, and have fun. What a shame! This is so sad for the morale of the soldiers who may see it on TV. If only these kids knew what they were doing (if only I had, 30 years ago).

and a person we know got a phone call from her husband trying to make it to where we all were....and he had to back up and go around town to another bridge to get to our city......they were laying down in the middle of the bridge and getting arrested......protesters that is.....they did this yesterday in Portland too and 21 people got arrested and they weren't all young kids either....most of them were middle age and older people .....you can do the picket signs and do whatever without a permit as long as you dont' stop traffic or people coming and going

Oh Marsha, how awful. You must have been furious that your DD was caught in this mess and you couldn't do anything to help her. I'm so glad that she made it home safe and sound.

Thankfully it appears that the local demonstrations haven't been disruptive.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think we'll soon hear about morons spitting on troops?

I have some pretty strong views about hippies

DS19 says that his professors spout all kinds of anti-Bush, anti-war talk during classes. And on my dime! Damn!

Glad your daughter is OK Marsha. As scary as it was, it was probably tame compared to the busing riots in the seventies.

Buz

:(
Glad she made it home.
I agree with Glo. Maybe they need to stop and think about why they are allowed the right to do this.

We had some in Minneapolis today too but I don't think they were much of a problem. At least I didn't notice them. They walked down Nicollet Mall which is a pedestrian-only street so they didn't tie up traffic except as they crossed streets. I suppose when the next terror attack happens these young bright people will cheer.

I heard on the news recently (I don't remember which university it was, in California, I think) that the professor was giving passing grades to the students who would write anti-Bush letters to mail to the President, and giving failing grades to the ones who would write pro-Bush letters. Is this biased teaching, or what?

I feel so much better now! I thought I was the only one sickened by the protestors. And I work at a Boston tv station and unfortunately can't avoid hearing about these people all day long...ARGH!!!

I am very lucky to be inside all day and not have to deal with them in person though.

off2Disney, if what you wrote is true...I am horrified again..

I like to go Boston maybe once a week so now I have to rethink whether I will or not.. My rights are being violated too.. I do not have the freedom to go where I want because others who are expressing their right to freedom of speech are inhibiting me..

And as far as the Vietnam reference is concerned, those who know my husband and I know that my DH still wears his POW bracelet because the person whose name appears on his bracelet never came home.. Do you have any idea how long he has been wearing this little metal bracelet with some officer's name on it.. I refuse to allow these soldiers that are fighting in Iraq receive the same treatment that our poor suffering Vietnam vets received when they got home....young men fighting a war they had no idea why they were fighting, the horrors of which they relive everyday....

I feel so passionately about this that if I hear anything like what I refer to in the previous paragraph.. I will be protesting in support of those who are fighting and giving their lives to keep our country safe...

Hugs, Marsha!

I defend the right of anyone to protest the war, but I do have a problem when it's done this way, in an attempt to distrupt normal business, and tie up the resources of our police and other law enforcement. We're on a high terror alert, and law enforcement should be able to focus their attention on those who wish to do us grave harm.....the actions of these protesters goes beyond free speech, IMO, and there should be stiff penalties for this type of civil disobedience.

I was thinking the same thing.

It makes me angry that while they are "celebrating" their right of free speech they are scaring people, sometimes destroying property, and other times beating on people.
I saw that live in San Fransico.

How disgusting. He/she should be fired. So much for "freedom of speech"...forcing people to express a particular political opinion. Kind of sounds like...hhmmm...IRAQ??

I'm PO'd at comments my DD's Spanish teacher has made in class...geez, you'd think when the teacher actually SHOWS UP for class, she'd teach SPANISH.

Just love an anti-war protest (San Francisco) where they beat the crap out of a fellow American and loot their car...yeah, that's peaceful.

Call me naive, but I just can't understand why people protest when the war has actually began. Is it really going to change the fact that the war has started??? I don't think so. It is only making our law enforcement work harder and keep their staffing away from other areas especially when we are on high alert!!! It gives emotional support to Saddam and his troops!!

Today my DD's have a day off of school and want to go to the Museum of Science. I am hoping we won't get caught up in any protests or anything. I would hate for the girls to be caught up in something that I find very difficult to discuss!!

Marsha, glad to hear your DD is safe.

God Bless America!!
