It has finally hit me...

my youngest and only ds is starting all day kindergarten next week. I am sooo sad. I don't know why. He LOVES school and is really excited about going but it is killing me. With my dd, I was sad, but it was okay since I had a baby at home. Now? No one, but the dogs, literally 2 of them!
Tell me I am not a nut here!

My baby is a senior and it seems like yesterday that the K5 teacher was peeling her off my legs on the first day of school.

Your not a nut. I cry every year the first day of school when I hear the bus pull away. My kids are going into 8th and 9th grade. Seems like yesterday they were in kindergarten. It goes by fast. Wait until he hits the age where he says not to walk him to the bus anymore. You will feel like your heart was torn out of you.

I cried when DD, now a freshmen, started kindergarten. I'll cry on Monday when my baby boy starts kindergarten. Tomorrow's orentation.

OMG you're experiencing empty next syndrome before they even leave home

This is the next step of so many, mom. Remember how hard it was to watch them take that first step? But we did it. I also still remember them peeling my kindergartener off my arm and telling me it would be okay. It was, but I wasn't. That's the day I felt like the world's worse mom.

My 2 DSs started 8th and 9th this year and it doesn't get easier. Bigger kids, bigger problems and harder to let go. I don't believe it gets easier and I wish I could find some comforting words to say it will. I don't know any. Just remember that "they are ours to borrow for a short time." This is our job to make them independent. If he loves school and has adjusted so easily, pat yourself on the back that you've done such a great job raising a well-adjusted child. You're a good mom!!!

My oldest starts K next week too. We get to meet his teacher tomorrow. I can't wait! We'll see how I feel on Wednesday when he actually gets on the bus though.
