It happened to me!!!

We checked in late night on the 30th of December. Was concerned that since we were so late I'd have NO shot of getting any of my requests met.

Inform check-in clerk that I had reserved a studio and requested Grandstand if at all possible. She smirked at me and said "It's your lucky day!"

She told me they were filled to capacity and overbooked (for whatever reason) and I had been upgraded to a 2 BEDROOM VILLA!!!! for my entire length of stay!!! From a studio to a 2BR... no joke. It was the most amazing surprise I could've ever asked for and me, my hubby, and my 2 kids couldn't have been more grateful or appreciative for our amazing luck. The SSR Villa's are truly... TRULY beautiful. We are forever spoiled. (Front desk forgot to give us our list of activities for the week..but I refused to go back and ask because I was afraid they'd change their mind and force us back to a studio!! HA!)

Moral of the story.... checking in at 9am MAY get you a better shot at your request.... but late nights MAY get you a better shot at upgrades! (FYI - even the front desk said that they were SO happy to have made our day... they said they NEVER do "upgrades" in DVC but that we just checked in at a once in a lifetime time period that they were overbooked.)

It may sound corny.... but I am forever grateful for the amazing upgrade and it made unbelievable memories for my familys NYE trip!!!

Congrats!!1 I have to say SSR is great!!! We booked our 10yr. aniv. there for June 26-30! Just DH and I. We checked in (It was our 1st stay as DVC memebers) the staff was great. We had a studio, the next morning we went down to the front dest, DH did not sleep well, bed was "hard" he said!! Anyhow we got upgraded to a 1bed and when we came in from the parks that evening we had a dozen roses with a balloon, and autographed picture on Mickey and Minny for our aniv. I LOVE SSR!! so much that when we were leaving we booked July 2-7th and came back with our 2 DD's...LOL

DS & I will be checking into SSR on the 17th. We are booked into a studio for one night, a grand villa for one night and then back to a studio for another night. I keep trying to see if they have a studio available for that Sunday night but no luck. I'm crossing my fingers that some pixie dust will come our way and they could either find a studio for us that Sunday or (GASP) a grand villa for one of the other nights. I'm not counting on it but it sure would be nice

We had the same thing happen at BCV on 12/30 and 12/31 -- but ours was a cash reservation not points -- upgraded from a studio to a 2 BR!

It was amazing, wasn't it? Too bad I don't have enough points to afford that on a regular basis!! LOL!

Wow, I know they don't upgrade DVC! We went for my Birthday, once we arrived we tried to pay for a upgrade, this was my first stay ( I didn't really understand the points vs cash system) no way... I booked a studio, I got a studio. Congratulations to you!!!
