My DD who has acute anxiety disorder started walking to school on her own yesterday which was a massive step. She leaves school 10 minutes early every day to avoid the crowds.

Today she was mugged on her way home from school. She is only 12 for god's sake!:worried: Two teenage boys snatched her phone from her. She begged for it back and they were aggressive towards her. A member of the public found her and called the police.

I am so angry. I can't imagine how this is going to affect her and what impact it will have on her anxiety. I just want to bury my head and cry.:sad2:

That's so horrible :( Wish I could say something helpful - I share your anger. My daughter is the same age and I too would be distraught if this happened to her (and she doesn't suffer from anxiety). I am glad she was found and helped by a passerby - there is good in the world but sometimes it seems you have to look hard for it.

Hope you all recover quickly and that this doesn't make her anxiety worse.

Thank you. I'm glad that she was helped too. I had warned her not to wander around with her phone out. She has had to learn a very hard lesson. I just hope it doesn't have long-term consequences.:worried:

I am fifteen and suffer with severe anxiety too- mainly to do with school. I am so sorry about what happened to your daughter- I can not believe anyone would have the nerve to mug her! :confused3 If it happened to me it would have almost definately made my anxiety worse. I have to admit support from my parents and the school has helped, so make sure the school is working with you.

My parents also struggle with dealing with my anxiety, but they support me even so, and it helps massively. I think support is the best thing you can give to your child when they are struggling with anxiety. I'm sure it will get better soon. I am so sorry that it happened, and I wish your daughter the best of luck in continuing to walk to school. I hope some sort of appropriate action has been taken towards dealing with these boys.

I hope your DD is okay

I am so sorry Juliette that your daughter has had to go through this. It's the last thing you need . I know what I'd like to say about the boys but my post would be deleted. Hope your daughter is ok and also your Mum

Thank you - my DD has had this anxiety for a long time and we are all still learning to deal with it. She seems to have a lot of support from her friends and I have requested help from Victims' Support. I will also request an extra counselling session from CAMHS.

I'm glad that you have a solid support network to help you with your anxiety.:)

Thanks - my problems seem to be unrelenting at the moment. I know what I would like to say about those 'boys' too but this is a family board.;) Off to see my Mum tomorrow.:)
