We've been going to WDW since 1989, and up until yesterday, no one has ever asked me the following questions:
Why do you always go to WDW?
Why don't you go someplace else?

I though about that for a while and wondered why someone would ask that question. I told the person that we love WDW. Everyone is very friendly, it's neat and clean, we have the opportunity to experience things that we can't at home (World Showcase), and we love the variation in restaurants that are available.
Why would it bother someone that we choose WDW as a vacation destination each year? It puzzles me.

Our last 10 week long vacations have been to WDW (we do weekend trips elsewhere), and I get asked that question a lot. I always answer with, "we like it there."

Recently, though, I've started to think that maybe we should expose DS to a bit more than Orlando, Florida, so I think we are going whale watching next summer instead of visiting the Mouse.

Our first visit was in 1983 and I tell people who ask, that we go back because there is always something new to experience and there is a range of activities for all generations. I always stress that it is a resort, not an amusement park. Sometimes the question is asked by people who have made several trips to Las Vegas or Cancun, and then I turn it around and ask why they return to the same place!

For my upcoming solo trip, I had a voucher for a free flight, so I decided to go to WDW alone!!! HORRORS!!!! Or you would think, DH just didn't get that at all...He said, "why don't you go to San Francisco, or San Diego or someplace NICE?" LOL, you just have to shake your head, because they just don't get it...::yes::

I HATE when I get asked that question. People get so upset when I try to explain why I love it there-than don't ask me. I had one person tell me she had never been there and didn't plan on going. Well than, you don't know what you're talking about so stop telling me I spend too much time and $$$ there. If I knew going somewhere made people happy I would be really excited for them. Instead people just don't understand and try to make you feel bad.

Oh, some people can just be rude even when they don't mean to be. . :(

My advice is that next time it happens thank them for their concern then push them over a hedge and walk away whistling "Zippy-doo-da". . .

It always makes me feel better anyway. . . .

Just curious, but where would you go whale watching. I have to confess that I have trouble picturing someone who loves WDW enough to go 10 times enjoying whale watching as an entire vacation. We went for 1 day and I am glad to have done it but after a few hours and a few whales it quickly became one of the most boring things we have ever done. Nothing against whales or anything!!!

It's perhaps the most often-repeated subject on the DIS - what do you do with people that ask why you're going back to WDW?

My answer is there is no answer. They don't "get" it and no answer will satisfy them.;)

All the more room for those of us who do "get it.pirate: ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo princess:

I have had many of the same questions. When I request time off at work everyone has gotten to the point to where they say, "let me guess, you are going to Disney-AGAIN."
Some of them have been a few times and just don't get it, and others have not gone and don't plan too. I have 2 children (5,2) and we have been at least 2x's per year for the last 4 years. Why, because I LOVE IT! I try to explain how many things there is to do there-they still don't get it! It's not just going to the park and standing in line all day.........so much more to it than that.
My 2yr old loves watching "Wishes" on the computer. He thinks that when he sees me on the Disboards that I should be playing the fireworks show every time. He gets soooo excited if he sees ANY thing that has Mickey on it. We have the sing along videos and he goes nuts over them! He watches them over and over. One of them is almost worn out!
SO, another reason I explain to these people who don't see Disney the way I do. I ask them? Do you like to see your children light up with joy and get excited? Well, my children do! I love it too. When they grow up and have children I hope that they will see the enjoyment in their children' eyes too! I feel that it is the MOST MAGICAL PLACE ON EARTH!
I love planning every trip and going over it with my daughter and thats only half of the fun. Too bad the others miss out! That means more rooms for us on all of our trips..........

With us, WDW is more of a guarantee that we'll have a good time from spending our hard earned money. Plus, when you travel with multiple parties (relatives, friends etc...), WDW is kind of a no brainer because there is so much to do.

I couldn't do it for a straight week either. We're thinking about Alaska because there would be plenty of other things we've never seen and done. Knowing us, then it will be back to WDW in 2006. :)

I don't know where to start. What's so difficult about understanding repeat trips to one of the most popular tourist attractions on the planet? Many people scrimp and save for a lifetime to get there...some of us are fortunate enough to make multiple visits. A backstory of the literature, art, and music so many of us grew up with is brought to life in a way that can be enjoyed on many levels. There is beautiful scenery, delicious food, and a disconnect from reality. It's as different as you wish to make it from one trip to the next.

What does everyone else do trip after trip? The lake/ocean/mountains/museums/casinos? How widely varied are those experiences from one time to the next? After dozens of trips on POTC, I saw the hidden Mickey in the "treasure scene" near the end of the ride.:earsboy:

Disney again? Frankly, the prospect of anything else seems a bit dull::MickeyMo
