Issue with sleeping arrangements

Im sorry but im not potstirring. I am stating my opinion and I believe we all have to have a first post. I just think spending hundreds on a room to have to bring your own air mattress to sleep on would kinda make me mad. I have 3 kids so my onsite options are either two separate rooms, a deluxe room or villa / suite options which all end up on a pull out couch, arm chair or similar. Im also coming from overseas so my dream disney holiday will cost us much more than the mainlanders, so I feel the value for money of spending hundreds on a room per night to sleep on a pull out couch.... well I digress. Looks like getting two separate connecting rooms might just be the way to go for this family.

Let's see there are treehouse villas, two and three bedroom suites, and grand villas all which will give every person in your party there own bed. If your family is larger, you need a larger room. It's a fact of life. The set up at Disney is pretty much the way hotels are set up every where. If you don't like the options onsite look off site.

At $922 a night. Plus 12k in airfares. Im gonna leave it at that. A little courtesy and compassion never goes astray.

You could look into renting points for a 2 bedroom villa and that will allow you all to have the proper space for less cost. We are staying at VGF this year for basically what we could pay for a room at a moderate.

So you'll pay $922 and not research that the room may not work for your family? That seems pretty irresponsible when you are spending that kind of money. Like a pp pointed out there are other options to accommodate you, nobody is forcing you to not book one of those.
As far as airfare, why should Disney care what you spend in airfare, that is between you and the airline :confused3

OP, we have always made it work, whether dd had to suck it up and sleep with her brother or me and dh just slept with them.
The idea to use the couch cushions is good :thumbsup2

I understand your frustration. We too will fly from abroad. But as EMode posted before, It doesn't matter to Disney how we get there. They'll charge everybody the same price for a room.

I thought that all one bedroom villas sleep 5 now? So a 'normal' room situation, hotels, suites or whatever, will have a maximum 2 people per bed. If there are 2 beds, king or queen, or sleeper sofa, then that's 4 people. Where is the 5th meant to sleep? We have stayed at BWV before but we've never been in this situation. When DS was really little we used the pack n play or crib, but I never thought to ask if there was an extra bed/mattress available.

All 1-bedroom villas will permit 5 DVC guests (not cash guests) but not all of those guests will necessarily have beds. DVC figures that how you make your sleeping arrangements is your business. BWV is one that only has a king bed in the bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the living room area. I believe that if you were are OKW, VGF, BLT or AKV (except for value rooms), then you would have a sleeper chair or murphy bed in addition to the king bed and sleeper sofa. AKV Kidani and BLT also have the advantage of a second bathroom in their 1-bedroom units.

Im sorry but if im staying at a villa onsite and im paying villa onsite prices I would expect disney to cater proper beds for each in my party. I am so having difficulty accepting even one quuen bed and pullout sofa for suites etc!!! Tell me this doesnt suck. Spending hundreds of dollars on one night to sleep on a pullout couch!!! Oh my giddyaunt! Give me a bed for each on my party (5).

Disney makes no secret of how many beds or pull outs are in each room. It is up to us to choose the set up that works for our family.

And this is why we stay offsite, a family of 5 no way am I paying what Disney wants to charge to stay onsite for my family to be comfortable, I totally agree what they charge they should supply a bed for everyone, a proper bed not just a pull out couch. But that said, I know this information up front so I would never consider staying.

Welcome to the Disboards, :flower3:

What villas are you staying at? I just returned from our 4th stay at the BWV. Their sofa sleepers are amazingly comfortable. So much so, that my DD's best friend who was staying at the BWI in a concierge level room and my DD begged for a sleepover in our villa! They slept like little 15 year old angels in that sofa sleeper! They're totally different than regular sofa beds. I had to wake them up with eggs and all for breakfast the next morning! (DS was on a school service trip so it was just the 3 of us).

I'd say, let your teenager sleep with the 4 year old. It's a queen bed. It folds out amazingly - and the pillows are tucked underneath (it's really cool). My DD slept so well all week there!!

You are free to bring an aerobed if you want. They have no rollaways.

Staying in a one bedroom at BWV. Yes, DD15 has slept in the queen sleeper before and says that they're really comfy. Then she said she'd rather sleep in the bathtub than share with her little brother! : ) He really does wriggle A LOT. Even if he comes in with us in our super king size bed ( UK size so still way smaller than a US king) he keeps us awake!

We'll be staying for two weeks (yay!) so I'm kind of worried that he'll get used to sharing with whoever ad well. Maybe we'll take it it turns sharing and/or he can sleep on the floor. I know little kids don't mind the floor as much as adults!

If you are staying 2 weeks I would definitely bring an air mattress. You want everyone well rested!

Which resort are you going to stay? It depends on resort. Different resorts provide different facilities for guests.

My parents did the same gender bed sleeping arrangements with my brother and I on every vacation that I can remember. So mom slept with me and my bro and dad slept in the other bed.

I also concur with the splitting by gender in each bed.

Incidentally, when we rented DVC points and had one night at Kidani in Feb 13, DD had the pull-out sofa and said it was really uncomfortable. It just shows how everyone is different.

The thing that bugs me about having 2 double/queen beds in a room is the lack of privacy. DD is 20 now, and she does not want to be sharing with mum & dad (we both snore, apparently). It's a shame there isn't an option of a curtain that pulls across between beds, for example, for modesty. Even stretching to a suite wouldn't give her her own proper bed! Mind you, with the cost of the suites, it's almost cheaper to get two adjoining rooms at a value!

I remember MANY family vacations from when I was young to when I was a teen, that my sister (2 years older) would get a bed, my parents would get a bed, and I would sleep on the floor. I preferred the floor to sharing. I don't think we ever had a problem with a hotel giving us extra bedding.

I also know a few times we did me with my Dad and my sister with my Mom. My sister and I didn't share beds well (they were usually fulls though- a queen might have been okay.)

I guess I'm a cruel Mom but I'd be saying hope its dry after all the showers and you know your dad gets up early to shower.

Seriously if there are sleeping spaces in the room and there are I wouldn't be fussing.

What if you rolled up a blanket or put some pillows between them, or and my kids did this when they got older, 1 gets under the sheets and the other sleeps on top of the bedding with another blanket so there is no touching under the sheets.

How could I have forgotten! Right back to our first holiday in Florida (Cocoa Beach) back in 1974 my 3 brothers got one room, my parents got another, and muggins here got the bedsettee. The motel isn't there any more, but we had a 'suite' of 3 rooms: central 'lounge' with a bathroom in the back and fold-out sofa bed, my parents were to the right with a double bed, bathroom and kitchenette, and my three brothers were to the left in their own room.

This happened holiday after holiday right through until I was an adult!

Disney just don't cater for large families - unless you want to shell out for a 2 or 3 bedroomed villa or something.

Can't your son just sleep with you and DH? We co sleep and my son is almost 3. A king is big enough for 4 people lol
