My family and I sailed on the Magic last week, and I thought I'd share our experience with illness on the ship. The first night, our son began vomitting, and he was sick until 11 the next day. When the clinic opened, I took him in and after waiting an hour (they took the adults ahead of the children, which I found odd) we saw the dr. I had brought some phenergan suppositories with me, but not enough unfortunately. The physician informed me that our son needed to be isolated for 24 hours and kept out of the Oceaneer Club for 48. I wasn't convinced it was a virus due to how rough the seas were, but we complied.
A few minutes after returning, Caroline from Guest Services called to say she'd like to come to our room to discuss isolation with us. Sort of weird to isolate someone and then have a cast member be exposed to the illness, but we were glad she came. Caroline had a VCR sent to our room, and let us choose as many board games and videos as we wanted. They also provided bottled water and powerade free of charge, laundered our son's clothes, and let us order our meals from Lumiere's for lunch and AP (our rotation restaurant) that night.
We kept him out of the club until Wednesday because Tuesday night, after a great day in St. Maarten, he got motion sick at dinner (Yes, that was us, rushing out of Lumiere's as he threw up into a champagne bucket!. The rest of our vacation was fabulous, and we had a perfect day at Castaway Cay.
While I realize it benefitted DCL to make us happy enough to keep our son isolated, I feel like they went above and beyond to keep us happy, and I really appreciated that.
