I was looking at the long range forcast for our Orlando visit next week and it says "isolated thunderstorms." In Florida terms, what does that mean? Don't the storms pass fairly quickly?
That depends on whether a front is passing thru or not.
Go here and look at the current satellite image. http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USFL0372_f.html
A front is passing thru, bringing rain that could last a few hours.
During the summer, the rain showers usually appear in the afternoon. The ground heats up, the moisture is sucked into the air, and the rain appears around 4pm for a couple hours. Weather forecasters always throw in scattered showers to protect themselves. It's like a given, that it can rain at any time.
There's no way to tell what's going to happen next week. I'm going up March 30th and won't worry about the weather until a couple days before I go.
It's good to go early in the morning because the sun is usually out and the showers appear in the afternoon.
