Hi! I am a newbie to all of these fantastic Disney designs and all the DIY you can do with them. I am so excited to make my family fun trinkets for our upcoming December cruise but need help! I am trying to make several shirts. I went to Joanns and bought a pack of printable iron on transfers the transfer instructions say to use a new shirt and don't wash it but the instructions I see on another DIS forum say you need to wash the shirt. Also have those of you who have made these shirts printed them at home? Usually when I really care about the quality of a print I have it printed somewhere like staples but they use a laser printer and the transfers say use a inkjet printer.
Just need some advice from those who have successfully made these shirts in the past, I don't want to waste shirts or transfers with mistakes. :)
Thanks!

You need an inkjet printer to make a transfer. The colors in the ink are what transfers. I've transferred images onto t-shirts and polo shirts. I found it was better to have already washed the shirt.

What brand transfers have you used? How have your shirts held up?

Gosh, I'm sorry, I don't recall what I used. Whatever it was I bought it at Michael's. Or JoAnn's. :confused3 It was for our first trip. One of the polo shirts (made a little transfer for the "pocket" area) the transfer peeled off after a while. But I think it has to do with the fact that I used that shirt for those days we did snorkeling (so my shoulders wouldn't burn like the first time). Sea water can be damaging to the transfers. The other shirts are fine (7 years later)

So I am working on my first shirt as a trial, what about the vinegar wash? Do you add it to where the soap goes in the washing machine or to the actual load? Since I am only doing one as a trial could I just soak it after ironing on to set it? Thanks for the help!
