What you can get out of a company when you call to cancel something?
At the start of July we ordered a computer desk from Argos, at the time we were told we'd be contacted by the end of the month with a delivery date. On Thursday (30th) I got an automated call from them apologising and explaining that due to a problem with their supplier, I'd now get a delivery date around August 14th.
That was going to cause us a big problem as we needed the desk to organise the office and clear boxes out of the nursery, which was stopping us doing the nursery too. I decided to call and cancel the order and we'd go to Staples in town as they had some decent desks too so we could get on with sorting the house.
Well I called up and got a really nice girl on the phone who asked if she could check something before cancelling it which I was perfectly happy for her to do. She came back 5 mins later and told me she'd found stock somewhere else in the country and could have my desk delivered today (Aug 1st) which I agreed to. Today the van turned up and delivered my desk, a whole 13 days before I was told I'd even have a delivery date!
Always amazes me what a cancellation threat/slight amount of kicking uo a fuss can get you. Still annoying it had to come to ringing up to cancel though...
