Island Tower at Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

I suspect it has something to do with our group size - 2 or 3 adults at most, no kids.

Also it’s pretty cool to be sitting in the plunge pool, wine in hand and watch the electric light parade and/or fireworks.

I’m 100% serious that we are buying a chunk of SAP+ to stay in the bungalows for a week on a more regular basis!
Good to hear!!

Thank you for putting some thought into this! Your analysis is making me feel a lot better about this pool situation because it does make sense when you look at the numbers. I'm still in favor of them jazzing up this tower pool a bit with some Polynesian/Hawaiian touches, but at least the overall guest to pool ratio should be improving.

Now we just need Poly to issue pool wristbands to cut down on non-guest usage!
Wristbands are the way!

Hope the perspective is off but from that pic, it looks like a private pool for ONE 2-BR villa... o_O
No, it really doesn't. There are more than a dozen chairs in the foreground of the Poly pic and it's easy to see how tiny the chairs are on the opposite site. Plus the water extends beyond both edges of the pic.

It's not that hard to adjust for the perspective. Here's Riviera's quiet pool from a similar angle. It's smaller than the new Poly pool. And still it measures 75 feet from front to back here.

Another perspective on pool sizes. Per the scale on Disney's plans, the new Tower pool measures 80' x 80' at the points marked in blue. The Lava pool measures 140' x 55' with the red arrows. The Oasis pool (not pictured) is about 110' x 55'. I'll let someone else do the math to try and calculate the volume of such irregular shapes. 🤪

Other Disney pools:

Rivera Beau Soleil: 75' x 35'
BLT Bay Cove pool 85' x 60'
GF Beach pool: 115' x 55'
WL Boulder Ridge Cove pool: 115' x 60'
Kidani Samawati Springs: 110' x 70'

I don’t think you need to calculate it. I think *think* they need to declare how much dirt they are removing on the wetlands permit. I can look later on, it’s the one with the plans attached to it. It may say in cubic yards the amount of dirt removed … that’s the volume. 1 cubic yard ~ 202 gallons

All this pool talk is making me realize just how crowded the whole Poly area is going to be. There wont be enough new eating/swimming/hanging out areas. I am probably going to pass.

Yowzer...that is A LOT of points!!

A week-long stay in the Bungalows at the Polynesian runs from 800+ to 1400+ points:
  • 824 points: Sept 1-30
  • 1447 points: Dec 24-31 (and March 24-31)
https://www.dvcresalemarket.com/listings/polynesian/?tab=point-charts

I'm gonna have to live through your experiences on this one...LOL! I'd love to read about trip reports using that many points, wow! :-)

Yeahhh I thought about doing the bungalow strategy but even just with extremely cheap dues and assuming you got the points magically for free, you're paying over 6500 dollars in dues for the week which pretty much goes against the entire reason why I bought into DVC but I am jealous of the people who can swing it.

The other thing I struggled with was the relative value compared to just booking a 3BR but /shrug those views on the water are tough to beat

Just my two cents, but I’m keeping my late January reservation. I would take the negative comments with a grain of salt. I do think the new pool will give it a net gain or at least a break even. I fully expect them to add a restaurant and even they dont, there’s plenty of places to eat in the park or other resorts.
Disney diehards tend to be pick things apart whenever ANYTHING new is announced with armchair advice on how they can do better.
I was half tempted to change my Moana room to the Tower, but I like the larger room size and (probably) better standard view.

I sincerely hope it's just the perspective of the pool and there is theming otherwise surrounding the pool that makes up for that sad artist rendering. They surprised us with the interior of the Poly tower, I hope they can do it again.

It will impact other pools, but it was always going to impact the main pool. This was always planned to be a small pool (even the original artist rendering wasn’t a large pool).

As for resort occupancy, the tower is not even doubling PVB max capacity. Original PVB max capacity is 1960.

We don’t know the number of each room type, but there have been educated guesses. Somewhere I read tower adds 1100-1200 max capacity. We know the duos sleep 2 (estimate of 34), studios sleep 4 (estimate of 97), 1BRs sleep 5 (estimate of 24), only the 2BRs (counting dedicate and kickoffs estimate of 63) sleep 9, 2BR penthouse (estimate of 4) sleep 8.

In terms of the overall Poly resort, it is probably closer to a 20% capacity increase.

Forbes wrote 268 keys at the Tower. Are the 2BR lockoffs 2 keys each?

I’m holding hope that since WDW needs Poly to be functional for expensive cash reservations, they’re confident the tower won’t upset the resort too much.

If you look at the actual pictures of the pool, it’s looks like a pretty decent size for a quiet pool. However, not going to lie, the 2 tier infinity pool would’ve been awesome!

I am probably sure that those 7 boxes around the pool going to be cabanas to be rented?
