Do you typically have a body temperature a bit on the low side? Mine has always been below 98 (ranging from 97.something to 96.something). The doctor has always told me this is not something to be worried about.

I just wondered how common this is?

I've always run a low temp. usually around 96.7-97.4. The bad thing is that when i get to a 99, it is like I am running around 101-102:sick:

98.6 is an AVERAGE so you are going to find people that vary from that and no, it is not something to worry about but if you naturally have a body temp of say 96 and have a fever of 103-that is a concern since that would be like someone with a 98.6 having a 105 temp.

Mine's low, too.

Many people do not fit the average body temp

My avg temp is about 97.4-97.8
My dad’s avg temp is around 96.6 to 97
My mom’s is very low: around 95.4 :scared1: (I didn't even know that was possible!)

Mine is around 97.1 on average during the day. I get up to 97.9 for a high at night and start off at about 96.3 in the morning. I have some family who are the same way as well.

It's very common, especially among people who are hypothyroid (in fact, it can be one of the indicators). I wouldn't worry about it, though, unless you have other symptoms. :)

Mine sits around 97.0 on average. I find that I'm normally cold when everyone else around me is warm. :)

The problem with having a normal temp of 95 to 96 is that when I get fevers they don't think it is as big a deal as it is. I had a fever in Nov of 103 which is high anyway but because of my normal being lower it was really high. He ER didn't think it was that much of a problem until it was discovered that I had pnumonia and the H1N1 virus.

Yep, I usually hover in the mid 97's also. So if I hit 100, I am usually miserable LOL. And OMG, the time I hit 104 a couple of years back, I thought I would die!

I've had that same thing happen! I've stated it numerous times in the ER and they just blow it off as if I am trying to make more out of somethign than it is. It's frustrating.

I'm 96.7 usually. Rarely do I have a "fever" because my temp will rise to about 99 when I'm sick.

Me too! I can feel HORRIBLE with a 99 temp. The doctors just dismiss it, though, saying I don't have a fever! Even my own husband/doctor does this! Grrrr!

I'm the same way! When I was in school and had to go to the nurses office when I was sick and they took my temperature, if it was around 99 degrees they'd think I was fine and wouldn't believe me when I told them I had a lower body temperature and sent me back to class.

Mine is usually REALLY low... somewhere around 96. I too am often cold when others are warm (I LOVE an 88 degree day and feel rather comfortable), and I also feel extremely feverish when my temp is 99 or so.

My doctor has also told me not to worry about it.
