Is Yachtsman Steakhouse worth 2TS?

We love the Yachtsman and we will be on the dining plan for the first time in Aug. We were looking over all the menus and prices before making our ADRs and we will be eating there, but we will not be using the dining plan for it, as we didn't think it was worth the 2TS.

I also think it's not worth 2ts's

Didn't Disney cut all the bus people so waiters have to bus their own tables now? I guess that affects service at busy times as well. I am sad to see Olivia's menu and hope more don't do the same. FYI a lot of CM's have been on mandatory 6 day weeks and doubles, etc.. for months now so I think that affects service accross the board. :sad2:

I didn't think it was worth the 2 ts credits. It was hohum to me, nothing extraordinary. I found it funny that with all the sauces they like to put on steaks at WDW, none of them (YS included) came close to the simply prepared steaks they serve at Ruth's Chris. I just wasn't impressed.

I've not had the opportunity to eat at the Yauchtsman, but will be there in August also. My DS hopes to join us and we will see if we want to use 2 TS in January. My family needs a concensus, and so far CG is winning the sig dining.

DDIL and will I have the deciding votes :thumbsup2as DS has already decided he want both :confused3.

Yachtsmen Steakhouse is one of the best restaurants at WDW. Great steaks and appetizers, wonderful wine, terrific service. We've been there about 10 times.

But I'd be just as happy if you didn't dine there with the DDP. It's ruining the restaurant scene at the signature restaurants with attitudes like these. They should pull Yachtsmen off the DDP completely, and leave it to folks who want a high end meal.
Your comments seem to imply that people on DDP aren't looking for a high end meal, just a cheap meal. Considering it works out cheaper for many people to use DDE than DDP i'm not sure your comment is correct.

We were there in May and used DDE, this time we are trying out DDP. All but 1 of our TS meals are at 2TS restaurants, because those are the places that we enjoy.

By all means criticise Disney for introducing DDP, I agree that many things have gone downhill from the way they used to be, but don't criticise the people using a dining option offered to them by Disney.

Yummmmm! Ruth's Chris, now they have good steak! :teeth:

I understand what you're saying. I think it's just the human way to look for as much of a bargain as possible. We have the DDE card and love that, for example. But the DDE card doesn't have the effect of driving down the quality of the appetizers and desserts, and standardizing the menus.

It's just a sense of loss I have. WDW had turned into such a great dining place, and now the DDP seems to threaten all these advances.

It's like steak heaven. My dh who is not a big steak lover, loves the steaks at Ruth's Chris.

When we went to the Yachtsman the dining plan did not exist. Many people seem to like this place but frankly we weren't impressed. My family does not mind paying top dollar for a resturant, so we weren't looking for a bargain steak or anything of that nature.
My family is using the DP this time around because it seems like a good fit. Everyday we plan one sit down meal and I always make an ADR, so it just seems logical. To criticize someone for using this service isn't fair. I'm sure there are people who will try and do things the plan does not allow, but don't assume everyone will. ;)

I don't think people are trying to break the rules. It's just that the economics of it suggest that the DDP is strangling all the originality out of the menus.

I do not think it is worth it. We were not impressed with our experience at the Yachtsman. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our ADRs, which was fine, except that when we checked in the lady just said "sit over there" no welcome, sorry for the short wait, etc. and we were not offered anything to drink. That's normal at a chain or lower end restaurant, but for a fine dining establishment, not the norm in my experience. The scallops appetizer came WAY WAY undercooked. Scallops were almost raw. The chateaubriand was very ordinary. Not bad, but nothing that I would order again for that price. I though the side dishes were too saucy/salty, particularly the mushrooms, although I do recognize that that particular thing is a matter of personal taste.

The atmosphere was also very ordinary. Not bad, but basically just an average middle of the road place, nothing special.

Our waitress was extremely nice.

Overall, we had really been looking forward to the meal and had "saved" up our credits to go on the last night, and it left us pretty underwhelmed. I would have preferred to eat at the Kona Cafe or a World Showcase restaurant for 1 credit.

By contrast, early in the trip we spent 2 credits on the Brown Derby and loved it. While it might not be the best way to "maximize" all possible value from the DDP, at the same time the food and service were excellent and we did not feel that it wasn't worth 2 credits.

Some people are upset about sharing meals and state that there's so much food that they don't want to waste it so they want to order one meal and split it & that's not what the plan is for.

I haven't had the chance to experience it yet, but I'm trying to be optimistic :)

I am the OP on this question. I ended up canceling my ADR and substituting Spoodles instead. Even though I am on the free dining plan, I want to make sure I get the best value. If I were paying OOP, I would ask the same question. I don't want to go somewhere just because it is expensive and I certainly wasn't wedded to this restaurant. Just wanted to try somewhere I had been before. Thanks for everyone's opinions. I think I will be happy with Spoodle's as it has gotten good reviews.

I agree with you on this. When we go on vacation a large part of the reason for visiting somewhere is the food. WDW is a food destination for us, but some of the changes I am seeing are beginning to trouble me.

SOrry but I have thumbs down for Yachtsman Steakhouse. My DH is a steak snob! I picked there for his birthday dinner and he also loves Lighthouses so I thought this was an easy one! Boy, how disapointing!

OUr server, was lovely, but he could not control what steaks we received. I noramlly do not order steak but figured I would eat a little and if DH still had room he could help himself to mine! The fat on both steaks was shocking! I felt so bad that his brithday dinner was such a flop! The restaurant itself was far form busy it was rather empty! Now, I know why! The waiter brought a lovely dessert for Dh as well as a card! I felt bad for the waiter to give top notch service, with a disappointing entree must be difficult!

DH did love Le Cellier, for the red meat lover! Next time we will try concourse as I hear much talk about their steak as well. Good Luck! My favorite was Narcoossee's great atmosphere and food !

Happy Planning and have a great trip!

Shula's and Jiko are still the best steak we have had at WDW but Yachtsman was good as well. DH and I had surf and turf and our friend had the porterhouse and all were very tasty. I just love how they prepare the filet at Jiko with the mac and cheese and port wine reduction. Shula's is a great steakhouse.
