Is wheat bread/buns the only thing used?

Planning our ADR's for our next trip and reading trip reports:banana: - keep on hearing about wheat buns, even at Casey's:sad2:. We were planning on Peco's Bill's (love that fixin's bar :goodvibes!), but although I like to eat healthy I simply cannot enjoy the taste of wheat bread. Do I need to rule out burgers and hot dogs (I'm on vacation!) or do some places still serve white bread?
Thanks!

Everywhere we've eaten lately has the new buns.

Keep in mind though...I'm a picky eater and would wheat bread is not something I would normally eat. I did eat a hot dog with the new bun and I don't think it is really a wheat bun...maybe some sort of wheat/white combo. It tastes no different than a white bun...but the texture is totally different. If textures bug you, then you won't like it.

I don't use ketchup or anything either and I imagine that is you put a lot of stuff on your hot dog/hamburger, with the new texture it would make quite a mess.

You can ask for a non wheat bun. Most places have them in stock for those with allergies. The buns are usually a tapioca bun. Or you can order your food without a bun.

They really are not that terrible. i thought from the hub bub on these boards they were going to be some tragically awful thing. I honestly did not see the big deal. They are still light in color and just a little more crumbly. But considering how greasy the burgers are ,how much condiments I add,Ihardly noticed. Dh definitely didn't notice and I didn't tell him and he hates wheat buns.

I think this is about the best description that I've seen of the new buns. The taste is white, but the texture isn't either white or wheat, it's different. (Not as dense. The texture is very light and as RMulieri said 'crumbly')

I have heard a lot about how they tend to fall apart easily - and I do love to pile lettace and tomatoes on my sandwiches;)!

What is a tapicoa bun?

Tapioca bread is gluten free. Generally you're going to get a very different taste from using a gluten free flour versus the wheat additive in the white bun.

This is a understatement! LOL The texture is also a bit different. And they do also crumble a little.

I had one at the Sports last month and it was decent. I eat sprouted grain breads though, so the texture thing doesn't bother me.

I will give it a try then. Eat fast so it can't get too saturated and crumble!
Thanks for the info!:cool1:
