Is Western itinerary "tropical" enough??

I wanted to do the Western this time to see some new places... but it somehow just dawned on me as I read the Navigators that they have replaced "Tropicalifragi-you-know-the-rest" with some "Mexicali-whatever" designation. Bleh!! Okay, I know the ship makes ONE stop in Mexico, but it's Cozumel -- pretty tropical place!! I hate the idea of roaming mariachi bands instead of steel pan music... I get enough of that here in SE Texas. I want tropical, not fiesta! :(

Has anyone who has gone on the Western felt like it didn't have as tropical a feel as the Eastern? I hope I haven't made a mistake... :(

Lots of kids aren't from Texas like you and yours are. A lot of parents, taking their kids to Mexico (or any country) would WANT their kids exposed to the countries culture.

Myself, I've done the Eastern. I hope the Western is not a clone of what I've done before.

Somehow, steel drums and Mexico don't jibe. Bring on the Mariachi's! I love em.

Eastern 2001, Western 2002 - we booked the Eastern for 2003. I thought St. Thomas was so beautiful in the harbor. The mountains were so pretty. Also liked the feel of the islands better, more tropical. I enjoyed the Western, except for having to tender in GC. But to me the Eastern is better, I can go to Key West by driving.

My husband and I have taken two eastern and we just got back from a western. It isn't all steel drums!!

Key West - fun party place with lots of opportunities for PEOPLE watching!!!!

Grand Cayman - fed/snorkled with stingrays...the water is beautiful and it's neat being on an island that is BWI vs USVI...a definite difference!

Cozumel - we couldn't decide between Tulum and kayaking...we ended up kayaking. This gave us a different view of Cozumel than the shopping. The mexicali-- night was really cool, DCL had a Mexican marachi band play during dinner and then they had a HUGE deck party with lots of goodies.

There is a lot to see...but whether it will be tropical enough will probably depend on what you decide to do.

Hope this helps!!

GINA?!?!?! *Total look of exasperation* You're asking yourself this NOW?!?!?! What am I gonna do with you?! LOL If it helps, I'll bring a cd of steel drum music and follow you around the ship playing it on my cd player. :) I'll even wear one of those cool straw hats, a tropical shirt and tan dockers and say "Ya, mon!" Don't make me come down there! :teeth:

But, I can see where you're coming from. IF you decide not to do the Western, I won't be too upset (ok, I'll throw a temper tantrum, cry, never speak to you again, and then go without you). j/k!

Maybe it's just buyers remorse? I know I've been having those kinda thoughts lately....gee, I could buy new snow tires or I could go on a cruise... Drop me a line if you need a shoulder, k? :)

Hi Gina....MJ here

Don't worry mon....even though the Western is more "Mexican" than tropical, don't fret. On deck during most of the cruise they still have the steel drum band playing Jimmy Buffet and "tropical" island songs.

The only time I saw the Mariachi band was in the Lobby one night (must have been Cozumel night) and in the restaurant for a few minutes one night.

Most of the music I heard was the typical tropical beat.

The Mexicali......deck party is awesome!!! It is a non-stop two-hour party with dancing, food, two for one margaritas, etc. The cruise staff is fantastic and they are soaked to the skin by the time the thing is over. We had a blast and everyone still wore their best "tropical/hawaiian" shirts for the occasion.

Have a great time!!!!

MJ

Did someone say 2-for-1 margaritas? :) :)

I am SO there!

(Well, I will be in 3 weeks!)

Just thinking the same thing :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc I think if you drink enough margaritas and pina coladas, you won't care where you are! :teeth: :Pinkbounc

The only negative (if there possibly could be a negative with 2 for 1 Margaritas....) is that they are not the frozen ones. Those are the ones I prefer...but I will suffer again next time and have those "on the rocks" ones!!!

MJ

Bring on the rocks

Hope they have two for one mexican beers too, otherwise that would be discrimination, wouldn't it?

Leave a few for us Beano, we are three weeks behind you !
