Is "Welcome Home Wednesday" Worth Attending?

We made it! Went to the WHW on 10/04 and were sitting in the front row. Anyone else there at the same time? I thought it was a nice break from the parks and enjoyed receiving the DVC Member hats. They served lemonade, popcorn, and Cracker Jacks as refreshments.

We have never attended any of the member activities @ WDW. Has anyone attended WHW recently? Did you feel it was time well-spent, or were you wishing you were elsewhere? Also, approximately how long did it last? Would my kids enjoy it as well...or should I just sneak off on my own to attend? Thanks!

We went in July. It was 2 adults and 2 kids ( ages 5 and 6). The kids were so bored. I was too. The only thing I liked were the free hats and you must be present to get one. you can't get one for anyone that didn't come. I think it was a waste of an afternoon. but since we were staying at the BW it was ok. Had i come from another resort I would have been a little irritated.

We just changed our ADR's at Chef Mickey's so we can atttend the Welcome Home. Sooo we'll eat a little later but with our DVC hats on!! DH and I are pumping up DD's(6&9) for an hour of popcorn and maybe even win something!! I hope it works and we also get to meet some of our DIS Buddies.

We are going on the 6 Dec (i think thats the Wed).

The WH-Wednesdays sound like something to do when you have some extra "downtime", are in the area, and are filling in time before dinner. Is that about right? :confused3
If so, I think we'll do it on our Jan. trip, not the Oct. one (don't want to miss out on those yummy F & W seminars :drinking1 ).

This is just my opinion, but WHW is really only worth it if you want to get a free hat and a chance at getting something like a DVC umbrella, DVC portable stool/cooler, DVC alarm clock, or a DVC mug floral arrangement.

I'm sure those door prizes change, but really that is all you'll get out of going. It is more of a "sales" type event than anything with a couple of trivia questions thrown in.

We went on Wednesday, October 11th and it was a pretty full house. When you entered, all adults were asked to fill out an information card to be eligible for the door prizes. We then went in and sat down at a table in the back and had some of the free lemonade, popcorn and cracker jacks, which was a nice little snack. Dee Vee Cee (sp?) came out as the host and was pretty funny.. she picked 4 info cards from the box so those people could be the contestants.

They must have been having a bad techie day on the 11th because the entire "game" show part was a disaster. The contestants would pick a certain category and value, and the tech folks would select something totally different. The points were all being awarded with the same value. It was just a mess, but it really didn't matter because it all ended with all 4 of them winning. The 4 selected contestants each won the same "prize" which was a little folding stool thing that could also be used as a cooler... Then more names were drawn out of the box and given door prizes (umbrella, alarm clock, DVC mug floral arrangement, and something else...) Everyone else received a 15 years of DVC hat on the way out.

Basically, if you want a free hat and some free snacks... go... but don't really expect to get anything out of it. It seemed like it was more of a sales pitch for the guests you brought with you as opposed to any type of member information.

I was expecting there to be some type of "news" or "information" aspect for members. I mean this was on the 11th and they mentioned nothing about the AKV announcement!!!

Oh, and lastly, they did not even ask to see my DVC card. They didn't appear to be asking anyone. :confused3

We were there that day to. Front row as well. I had our 3 month old on my lap.

I thought it was alright. I wouldn't rush to attend again. I prefered the one we attended last fall at SSR. It was much more informative and more interactive with the audience. The game show really only allows the participants to answer questions.

Also DH and I were rolling our eyes at the answers some people came up with. You'd think DVC owners would be a little more versed in all things Disney. After someone guessed 'Disneyland Paris' someone else said EuroDisney...

On the 4th they were definitely asking everyone.
