Is WDW a letdown after DCL?

Went on the Magic last August, for absolutely the greatest vacation of my life! Pleanning a trip to Disney World this summer (been there a few times before, but most recent was in 1999). I am concerned that the trip to WDW will pale in comparison to the cruise. I know WDW is fantastic, but after having experienced DCL, I think it may be disappointing.

Can anyone confirm that this will or will not happen?

:confused3

We visited WDW before and after our Disney cruise for our past two trips. We enjoy every part of the trips. Visiting WDW after the cruise enhanced the whole Disney experience, and we had a wonderful time.

I think you would be better off not trying to "compare" the two. Even though they are both Disney, they are different types of vacations.

Disney Cruise Line is fantastic at "pampering" so since at WDW you won't be eating with the same servers each night, you will have a better chance at receiving that level of service by visiting places like Artist Point or Yachtsman Steakhouse than you will if you eat at Pizzafari.

On DCL you can be as active as you want to be. Spend time lounging at the pool, looking out over your verandah, or playing water sports and exploring another culture. At WDW most people take a very active approach, quickly running from one attraction to another without appreciating the "culture". It's your choice which way you want to go.

EPCOT in particular can provide amazing experiences if you take the time to talk with the cast members about their homelands, great stories!

If you want to feel more pampered at WDW, the All Star resorts aren't the best choice. But if you can afford to concierge you will notice more attention to the details of your vacation. If you don't want to spend money that way, another option is renting points from a DVC owner and experiencing staying in a studio or villla -- now that's living!

When DCL is a full ship, you may or may not notice the crowds. At WDW, you most certainly willl. Crowds, lines, cranky people, it's all part of visiting the parks in peak season. But maybe you'll need to declare some "verandah time" (I believe they call them balconies at the resorts :earboy2: ) and go back and take the time to relax yourself and enjoy that it's a vacation.

If you really can't bear the thought of not being on DCL, maybe add a 3 day cruise onto your vacation!

I definately look at them as two very different vacations, both of which offer a wonderful vacation.

Don't try and compare the two and you'll be fine.

Enjoy!

we had a great time at Disney after our 10-day cruise. Even though the cruise was a blast, spending time at WDW was fantastic. :)

I have been on the cruise multiple times, and actually cruise a lot on non-Disney ships. I still love going to the parks. I agree with some people above me in that they are two totally different trips. It's nice to get back in the "get-up-and-go" feeling, but the cruis is nice because you can be very laid back.

Yes, apples and oranges.

WDW and the parks (MK, MK, MK!) are my first love. For that reason, we opted for a week there *after* our Wonder cruise. It would have been way too hard to be that close to WDW and not go! :earsgirl:

But I agree, the pampering on the cruise is wonderful. We stayed Cat 3 on DCL, then WL Concierge. When we got to our room at the Lodge, DH and I both laughed, "Wow, it sure does seem like 'nothing much' after the Wonder's suite!" The CMs were outstanding on the Wonder. At WDW they were excellent (with one or two outstandings and one not-so-great). It was so convenient to have the dining all decided and planned, too. And the kids (all three) were very excited about going to the kids' clubsonboard; at WDW DH and I had no alone time.

ITA with the above poster regarding crowds... the park crowds were a bit startling after the ship.

But as I said, WDW is my first love. I'm trying to figure out how I'll survive getting off the Magic in Sept 2006 and then just going...home. There's gotta be a way to squeeze in a WDW trip! :scratchin:

Its impossible to compare the to. Both are totally different kinds of vacations. Either way though I am sure you will love your trip at WDW,

Matt

The 2 places really can't be compared. We prefer to go to WDW before the cruise. It's so nice and relaxing after the whirlwind of WDW.

Have a great time whatever you decide!
