Is US/IOA good for 10 year old girls?

Second-guessing myself. We (hubby, myself and twin daugters, age 10) are coming down at end of next week - we are scheduled to stay 5 or 6 days at the Disney Dolphin/Swan and then I also made a reservation for 2 nights at Lowes PBH. We have been to Disney before and I have been to Universal a long time ago but no one else has been to Universal so I thought it might be a nice change to go to Disney and US/IOA. Do you think 10 year old girls will like US/IOA? They are the adventuresome types and we are staying onsite at PBH so I think they will like their pool.

US/IOA has lots! I went when I was around ten, but the only thing they had at the time that was kid friendly was nickelodeon studios, which has moved off site to its own hotel. Now in IOA they have Harry Potter, a bunch of splash rides and an area for Dr Suess. US has just opened a brand new Despicable Me ride, and still had ET. By ET they have a Woody Woodpecker themed water/splash zone they may find fun to run through.

I'm going to move this to the main board for more responses.

Short answer......YES!!!!
We're heading to Universal in 11 days with my two daughters who are 9 and 11 who can't wait to get back there! We stayed on site last year at RPR when they were 8 and 10.......we did every ride including the big coasters and loved every minute of it. All I could hear was "let's do it again!" You can't go wrong with a visit to the Universal parks. Staying on site with the unlimited Express Pass will be a real treat for you. They will have a great time. IMO your girls are at the perfect age especially if they are as adventurous as you say. Have fun!

It depends on the 10 year old ;)

Universal is without a doubt geared for an older or more thrill ride oriented crowd. Someone who gets motion sickness, could do a lot at Disney and probably a lot less at Universal.

So if she likes thrill rides, I think she'll enjoy it. And everytime we are there, we see plenty of younger kids having a blast!

IF anything, staying onsite and not waiting for rides, she may not want to go back to Disney.

I would say this is true of some RIDES, but not of the parks themselves. I have a ride chicken, she won't ride Disney thrill rides, so definitely isn't there for the thrill rides at Uni either. But she loves Uni/IOA, she just has different faves than most.
Her faves include: Cat in the Hat, Sneetch Train, Hippogriffs, all water rides, Despicable Me, ET, Simpsons, MIB (though sometimes this one scares her)

My daughter loved it at 7 or 8. She was tall enough and went on everything. Her favorite ride at that time was Mummy! 10 year old girls are more mature than the Dr. Suess or Splash areas- for some 10 year olds that would be too babyish.

Don't discount Spiderman, Hulk, or the Jurassic Park ride.. those were favorites as well. (It may look boy centric but it isnt)

Agreed. :thumbsup2 My daughters love these!

We just did US/IOA and we have a DD10. My kids loved the parks and I'm sure yours will too. The one thing I have to add is that 10 being the "tween" age is really fun! My DD10 was on the Hulk one minute and then on Caro-Seuss-el the next. On Rip Ride Rockit one minute and then Woody Woodpecker the next as well. They are at a great age to enjoy the little kid stuff still and big enough to do the thrill stuff if they're up for it!

Absolutely yes! I just took my ten year old in March, stayed at RPR and wow is all I can say. The hotel was gorgeous, being walking/ferry distance was so great, the express pass let us fit in so much more than we would have otherwise, and she had a blast on every ride we fit in our time there! Nothing scared her, not even RRR! But we only had 2 days as we were trying to do a split Disney/US trip as well. All she can talk about is how fun it was, sure we're a Disney family at heart but also a bunch of thrill seekers! We're surprising her for her 11th birthday in December and staying at Hard Rock. Have a good time!

Thanks all - we will do US and IOA ... leaving in a few days - 5 nights Disney and 2 nights at a Universal hotel. Please keep the tips/comments coming.

We often suggest that you familiarize your child with the things at the parks. Read the Dr. Seuss books that are featured. Watch a few of the movies like Shrek, Despicable Me, ET.

Don't forget to vVisit the Dinosaur Discovery Centre. It is really cool. Do the Pteranadon Flyers as early in the morning as possible before a line forms. It is fun ride.

The ball area over in the Woody Woodpecker play area as USF is lots of fun too.
