Is Treasure booking up as expected?

I see cabins still available for Maiden Voyage and the next sailing 12/28/2024. I wonder if Disney thinks this is booking up as expected or if surprised these haven't sold out already?

Some have speculated that Disney may come to regret booking the maiden voyage at the time of year they did. The "double premium" of the maiden voyage coupled with the holidays may be proving to be too expensive for families.

I know we considered the trip after the maiden voyage, and just couldn't justify the cost premium for our room type, so we are going in a later time of the year. That was our personal experience.

Plus even for those who can afford it, they may choose not to cruise over the holidays for various reasons.... family, tradition, religious, weather concerns, etc. I also suspect the bad vibes from the Wish maiden may have contributed a non-zero amount.

Yes, that's exactly right. Due to the dates, we didn't even consider the maiden voyage. Too many events happening around Christmas time that matter more to us than a cruise.

A maiden voyage is mainly something for your biggest fans. To be able to say 'I was on the maiden voyage'.
To the general public this is a very expensive Christmas cruise. I don't think the casual DCL guest will realize that this is a maiden voyage.

If someone thinks: "I want to cruise over Christmas", they will see that the 6 night on the Magic is half the price of the 7 night Treasure.

It's also not billed as a maiden voyage, I just noticed.

A Christmas sailing was never going to happen for us, and we have been on a DCL NYE cruise, and I prefer NYE in WDW, but we are glad we did it once. We booked the Treasure in January, and I am looking forward to that!

Yeah I have several thoughts on that. First, like others have said, it's a basically a double premium priced cruise. Second, some people really don't want to vacation over Christmas Day (particularly TAs like myself, influencers, bloggers, etc who typically want to cruise MVs but who would have to be working on their trip and don't want to do that on the holiday). Finally (and this point was brought up by a client of mine), taking an MV is really risky over the holidays. MVs get cancelled; it happens. It stinks any time of year, but it would be MUCH harder to throw together a last-minute alternate vacation plan over the busy holiday season in the event of cruise cancellation.

Not everyone can afford a Christmas cruise. Not many can afford a Maiden Voyage either.

The amount of people who can swing a Maiden Voyage that is also a Christmas cruise is even smaller.
And people who can afford it, may choose not to. I would much rather take the money needed for that first treasure cruise and use it on multiple cruises during the year instead of just that one. That is just us though.

Another factor in low booking for the maiden voyage may be the non-refundable deposit. People may be waiting for more evidence that it likely to actually sail on schedule before booking, or simply waiting for more information on how different the Treasure will be from the Wish before they invest in it.

Scheduling the maiden voyage at holiday time also means that other costs associated with sailing are higher than they would be for later trips. If the first sailing is cancelled/rescheduled, the fare will be refunded but airfare and hotel bookings, with holiday-time pricing, may not be.

I would have seriously considered the maiden voyage and I would love to sail over Christmas some day. But I wasn't going to pay $$$$ for both at once.

Also have to take into consideration a lot of people can’t easily take that week off of work or can’t guarantee it till later and the maiden voyage deposit is non refundable.

My husband can’t submit Christmas week 2024 till sept 2024, so there is not a chance we could book the maiden even if we could afford it.

This is also me. Getting the time off around Christmas at my job isn’t decided until September/October of the same year and it’s a lottery. If they’d put the maiden in early December I’d probably have booked on it.

We are booked on 12/28 and I’m hoping we arent overrun with vloggers. I’m hoping they are either going first or waiting another week or two for the price to drop. For us, I’m a teacher with sporty middle schoolers so missing school isn’t an option. So we have to travel when it’s pricey. It is what it is. It won’t be this way forever!

I think Disney wouldn’t mind an 80% full boat the first few sailings to work the kinks out. I also think they wouldn’t mind the income of a full boat either lol, but I bet there’s a silver lining if it doesn’t sail full.

Many will probably be invited on a media cruise beforehand, as with the Wish. I was on that maiden and honestly of all the trouble we ran into media getting in the way everywhere wasn’t the problem I’d feared it would be.

I have been pondering the same question about the Treasure in general. When the Wish came out, we really wanted to sail during the inaugural season, but concierge sold out completely on all the initial offering of 4 night sailings before they got to our booking category (Silver at the time). Like, completely sold out. But I just looked and the first Treasure sailing I picked randomly (end of January) still has several different concierge categories available, with multiple rooms in each.

I have a few theories:
1) The double penalty of maiden+Christmas has been discussed, but then the inaugural season continues during months where not many people can travel easily, so likely overall sales are slower
2) The Wish had so many well-publicized issues for the first few months, that could have dampened people's enthusiasm for the initial sailings
3) When the Wish came out, it was the first new ship in a number of years, and the first of its class. The Treasure is more or less a copy/paste of the Wish, with a few theming modifications. Thus there is less fervent demand to see the new thing since it's not really that new (and of course there is now a contingent of anti-Wish people who will also be anti-Treasure).

We opted not to book the Treasure for now. We actually enjoyed the Wish, but the Treasure's updates weren't that compelling for me.

And the routes are boring and don't go to to Lookout Cay.

I’m assuming the vloggers might go on 3rd or 4th sailings
