I just got off the phone with my mom and she wants DD to go on TOT with her. DD will be turning 6 on our trip and the closest thing she's ever gotten to a "thrill" ride is my DH driving. Remy is now excited about going on the scarier rides thanks to a half an hour talking to Grandma and I am worried that if she gets scared on a ride she will refuse to go on any other rides. I am afraid of heights and won't even try it, so I am not sure what the ride is like. I told my mom maybe we should try an easy roller coaster ride first to see how she does or maybe do TOT last, but she thinks I am being too protective. Are kids ok with this ride? Any other rides I should be careful of?

My DD would never ride TOT until last year. She was 10 and had finally worked up the courage to ride.

She loved it. Rode it 2 more times.

I think I 'd start with a few less scary rides and work my way up to TOT. I believe it's each individual child. My 11 year old niece cries on Splash Mt, but my DD has loved it since she was 4! My DD (7) also loves BTMRR, Space Mt, Test Track;however, she is not really fond of TOT.

I loved all kinds of thrill rides at age 7 when I first started going to theme parks (I'm 33 now). Loops, spins, all kinds of roller coasters. It didn't matter.

Now I feel more aches and pains, especially after something like space mountain. As far as TOT, I LOVE it. It is definately one of my favorites at any park. But to be honest, it really took me by surprise the first time I rode it. The visual effects are so real and so intense, I'm not sure what I would have thought at age 7. I would not have minded the dropping at all. But I know that even riding looping roller coasters, I didn't like haunted houses as a kid because they played with my mind too much. If your DD likes roller coasters and doesn't mind the haunted mansion, you are pretty much set.

My older dd loved this ride on our trips when she was 6 and 7. She loves the fast, thrill rides and is okay with the Haunted Mansion kind of stuff. This last trip she didn't really want to ride it much because the music and the effects scared her. She actually likes the drop part.

My younger dd is 6 now and doesn't like Splash Mtn. or the Haunted Mansion. (She doesn't like the drop or the spooky stuff.) I know she will not be ready for TOT until she's ok with that stuff, so I don't force the issue.

My 12 yo daughter came off of that absolutely bawling her eyes out, she was so terrified. The one thing I did do was at the end, you exit through the gfift shop. I bought her one of those "I survived the Tower of Terror" t-shirts Now it's one of her favorites (the shirt that is. She'll never go near the ride again!)

It so depends on the child. I let my DD go on Space Mountian (in CA, lower height restrictions due to cars) and she hated it. She cried for a good 10 minutes after that. At 5 my DS loved it... Funny thing is my DD is the risk taker, DS timid one (on the play ground). But for thrill rides it was oppisite- so it depends on the child, but I have no idea how you might perdict it :D That was tons of help, wasn't it...

The first time my DD went on TOT she was 7. She went on it 6 times in a row that same day. It really is up to the individual. My DD is a thrill seeker. She couldn't wait till she was big enough to go on the bigger rides. This year will be her fist time Rocken Roller Coaster. She can't wait.

My nephew was 4 and didn't like it. It was his first ride at disney but did not make him hesitant to ride other things he was tall enough for. It became a joke the rest of the trip if you don't behave.....its back to tower of terror. When he got off the ride he wasn't crying or hysterical or anything, he just looked at us and said "I'm not riding that again". DD 7 has been riding everything at Cedar Point the minute she was tall enough and some of those are way more intimidating than TOT. Also while at 8 she was afraid of haunted mansion she was not afraid of TOT.
I agree kids are all different so who knows????

My DD5 did it last year, she did OK.
But before that she did HM and Splash Mt and loved them, so I was pretty sure she would be OK in ToT.

My son last June was 3.5 yrs old when he rode TOT. He kept begging to ride it, I explained the ride to him (dark, ghost people, the drop) and he still wanted to ride it.
Btw--he was a tall 3 yr old so he met the height requirements ;)

Anyway, he rode it. Didn't cry or anything, but when we got off of the ride & I asked if he wanted to do it again, he quickly answered "no way...One time is enough" :teeth:

I, too, got him a "I survived the Tower of Terror" T-shirt & he loves to wear it.

We are leaving to go to WDW again & he has always reminded me he doesn't want to go on TOT.
Daddy & I LOVE that ride so we will be switching off ::yes::

Btw--my son LOVES the Haunted Mansion, BTMRR, Test Track...but doesn't like Splash Mountain. I think he doesn't care for big drops ;)

If your daughter REALLY wants to ride it, I would just explain the ride to her & then if she still wants to ride it, I would let her :)

My son had just turned 5 last year when he rode it for the first time and he loved it! He has ridden it several times since then... He always acts scared and nervous while we're in line, but as soon as we're done he always says, "Let's do it again!!"
:teeth:
He did get a little nervous about seeing the "electric people" (ghosts) again on our last trip, so we borrowed the movie about it. It seemed to help him a lot, and now he tells me that he can't wait to go back so he can ride it again!
