Is Tortuga Tavern any good?

I think It's the same menu as it was when it was El pirata y perrico. We liked it alot ,but it is seasonal and only seems to be open in busy times

Sorry to hi-jack the thread a little but does it get really busy or can you just walk in?

I think for the $$ its a great value and the food was GOOD. Nothing special, but those burritos are huge and enough to split with someone. I had the taco salad which wasn't anything special, but I loaded up on my fixin's and left very full. Its walk up and we went on a Saturday around lunch very little wait. DEF on my QS go to again. Everyone at the table loved the food. Keep in mind, its just simple american mexican style food so if you go in with those expectations you will be very happy.

It is my favorite place to eat in the MK actually considering quality, health (because you can load up on salsa, lettuce, and tomatoes), and cost. For some reason when we are there in the summer it is only open for a short time period each day.

Actually, I no longer see tacos on the menu. That is a bummer, because they were the best and biggest tacos!!!

They do get busy and close early and I think you should still feel lucky if you get a chance to eat there.

No more tacos. I didn't get to eat there the ONE time I saw it open. But it smelled really good. :goodvibes

Agreed. We were very disappointed to see the tacos off the menu.

We ate there last week and twice the week before. Also sad to see no tacos but the taco salads were good. They opened at 11 am sharp and I believe they closed at 3 pm. We always went right on 11 am and it wasn't busy. They weren't the quickest getting the food onto the trays, but they were polite and friendly and we were very happy.

Worth noting, it is quite misleading when you get to the entrance how the queueing system is set out if there are people lining up or congregating at the entrance. There isn't much space to get through and you actually can't see past the first cashier if there are a lot of folk standing around so they tend to form one long line which makes it appear a bit chaotic. We just went round where the seating is (right against and parallel to the part where the walkway is to the cashiers) and the last cashier was always standing with nobody there.

NOTE: The Tavern is simply the El Pirata renamed. At this review,
the menu has not changed. It appears that WDW is trying to take the
advantage of the Pirates them to make a poor eatery more popular. The
food is still not that good tasting. If it were not for ABC Commissary,
this could be the worst eatery on WDW property.

DH and I love their burritos!!! We have eaten there when it was El Pirata y el Perico and after they have switched names to Tortuga Tavern. It is one of our favorite places to eat in MK. DH always gets the beef burrito and I get the chicken, they are huge. They come on a soft tortilla with your choice of meat, black beans, and rice and there is a toppings bar so you can customize to your liking. If I am remembering correctly the toppings bar has lettuce, tomato, cheese, salsa, taco sauce, and sour cream.

We ate there in July and really liked it. I had a taco salad, DH had a burrito, and my four year old son was able to get a plain cheese quesadilla, which he loves. It isn't anything spectacular, but it is good, better than Taco Bell, for sure. We liked it and its different than a lot of other CS. Although you can always get the Taco Salad at Pecos Bill's around the corner, too.

Does anyone know if you can get salad dressing for the taco salad? I had one a couple years & it was very good but a little dry. I love to use french dressing on my taco salads.

Don't know about the french dressing, but we LOVE the Taco Salad! Once we load it up at the fixin's bar it easily feeds both of us. (I use the salsa instead of dressing, lots of cheese, sour cream, etc) I agree with Comissary being one of the worst, but Tortuga is a don't miss for us!!!
