Is Too Much Disney a Bad Thing??

We have been 40+ times in the last 14 years, with our last trip being Dec.

I never would have thought I would get tired of it, and I haven't really ,
BUT my feelings have changed.

While I still have a good time no matter what, it just doesn't feel the same as it used to. On our last trip I noticed myself feeling jealous when I saw "newbies" and their excitment, and it was then that I realized I was losing a bit of the magic.

Going 4 times a year, for a week at the time, for us has just started to feel like not enough of a break to miss it. Even my DD said one day that it didn't feel like a new trip to her, it felt like another day from our last trip. Like we had never even been home in between.

It's because I love WDW so much that we have decided to not go so much this year. It has been one of the greatest pleasures in my life, and I don't want to lose that.

It's funny, I actually feel realived to only plan one big trip for this year.
OK..maybe one big trip, and a small weekend! :teeth:

To me it never gets old. But Dh feels it does by going too frequently. We went every other year for since 1998, the year off we always go somewhere else. 2006 should be our next trip to WDW. Dh is hoping for a vaca to Caribbean...we'll see.

For me personally, the planning and anticipation is almost as much fun as actually going! I love all of the planning and talking with my family about what we want to do, where we want to stay, etc. For us, that's all part of the magic.

I totally agree, ::yes:: the planning and anticipation are all part of the experience to me and it wouldn't be the same without it.

I went twice in 5 months last year and I wasn't sure
about the second trip, it seemed "too soon" to go back, but I had a wonderful, equally magical time, each trip. Not sure if I could go 4 or 5 times a year though.

Friends often ask me why I just don't move to Orlando, but I don't think that's for me...WAY too hot in the summer for one thing and I wouldn't want to lose even the tiniest bit of magic because NOTHING
compares to the feeling I get at the first sight of the castle and I wouldn't want to ever take the chance of losing that.

When I lived in Los Angeles, I went to Disneyland 4-5 times a week. Sometimes I would just grab a dinner at the French Market at New Orleans Square, listen to the jazz band for an hour or two, and go. Sometimes I would spend the whole day, riding every ride I could get on. I am sure if I lived anywhere near Orlando, I would have to have an annual pass and would spend as many days a year as possible there! After all, with my DVC discount and going 365 days a year, the cost would be less than $1 a day! :teeth:

As you can tell by my signature, 2004/2005 was the first time I went to WDW in back to back years. As much as I love the place, I think an annual trip is the limit for me. (that is, if I could afford to go there more than once a year, LOL!). I'm single, no kids, so I tagged along on my brother's & sister's trips, but in 2005 I tried (and loved) a solo trip. I might go on another solo trip this year, but I'm not sure yet. I could see myself losing the "magic" if I went too often.

A few years ago, I'd have been content to go to Disney/Universal every year, deviating only to visit Disney Paris, Disney Tokyo, etc.

That said, my wife and I discovered the pleasure of more relaxing vacations where you can add in moments of thrill, but at a far better pace. I'm talking about cruises (haven't done the Disney one yet, but now with a son, that will surely change), as well as all-inclusive resorts.

I'm looking forward to our fall Disney trip for sure, but there is something to be said for a vacation where the only line is the one sitting at the bar.

I think the key. if you go often, is what you do. We go at least twice a month, have had passes for 13 years, can't even fathom the number of times we've gone. When we go, a lot of times it's just for the day, we even go there just for dinner and to walk around Downtown Disney sometimes. Other times we go to a park and do all the "off the beaten path" kinds of things. My husband and I love to go eat a leisurley breakfast over at the Boardwalk then go on to Epcot. Once a year we splurge and stay at a resort and then we usually don't even go into a park.
There's so many things to do there, I don't think it could ever get old or lose its magic to me.

If I lived nearby I wouldn't mind going a couple of times a month for an afternoon or such as entertainment, the way you go to the movies or other things.

But I honestly couldn't see myself planning vacation after vacation or multiple vacations a year at WDW. After about 5 days, I've pretty much seen everything I want to see and eaten everywhere I want to eat. And that is enough for me for awhile.

I guess that's why DVC has never interested us either. We love to go to Disney, but we love to go to alot of other places too and I think it is good for the kids to branch and out get lots of different experiences.

There are 3 axioms of life.

1) You can never be too rich.

2) You can never be too thin.

3) You can never, ever have too much Disney. :teeth:

This probably won't be a problem for us, I like it in NE Pa from April through New Year's Day so a permanent move to Fla won't happen and even when retirement looms there'll be other places to see. I'm thinkng 2, maybe 3 trips a year well spaced would preserve the newness without dragging on like a full year away does. The last 4 trips have been of 8,8,8 and 10 days and this March will be another 10. I'm not anxious to go home but anything 8 or longer leaves me feeling like I got my fix and there's no tail-dragging as we depart. I suspected that you can't stay thrilled with something in your back yard and for some, it seems, that's true.

And L107ANGEL, are you my neighbor or did you mean someone else?

You forgot me from the strategies board? :sad1: I am from Falls and you were from Clark Summit. Did you move?

Too much Disney - never - now too much money spent at Disney - ah yeah!!!! :teeth:

We make 2 annual trip there one in the Spring and one in the fall - and while we vary the time frame we are down there - we have never lost our "loving feelin'" for the place - as a matter of fact we start planning our next trip by the time we leave - you know "what did we miss this time", "what would we like to make sure we do again" - that old song!!!

Well...

I think (for me) that more than once a year would be overkill. I like to "miss" Disney and the element of newness is part of the appeal to me.

Once yearly would be perfect!

Unfortunately, my husband is not a Disney nut like I am. He enjoys it, but would NEVER go once a year. Maybe every 3 or 4 years would be okay with him. He's much more nature-oriented and would rather go to National Parks out west and such. Maybe it'll be different when we have kids.

Guess this is where that "for better or for worse" stuff comes in. Sigh.

L107ANGEL,

I've been a Wilkes-Barre guy since 1950 but there are a few posters from Clark Summit. My apologies for my memory, every Friday at happy hour a few brain cells are sacrificed in the name of Mirth and the one with your name on it must have bitten the dust!

I still get the feeling whenever I go. Nothing is like Disney.

And I agree. I get almost as excited just planning the trip. I LOVE PLANNING DISNEY VACATIONS!!! I could do it professionally.
