Is This Wrong?

Would it be wrong to make an ADR for three people, if there's nothing available for one? I'm not trying to cheat the system, I'm just having trouble getting the ADR, and I know there are more tables available for larger parties.

If the system is 'gamed' to prevent you from having access to ADRs for tables that are otherwise empty simply because your party is under some arbitrary number, then I see nothing wrong with you 'gaming' your ADR accordingly.

It's called leveling the playing field.

i've done it. when i couldn't get a table for 1, and a table for 3 was available, i went for it. then just showed up and told them the other 2 cancelled. my DU TA actually did it for all of my ADRs last august when it was 2...made them all for 3, cause it was easier that way. no problems.

if you're thinking of doing this or want to do it, you're better off just doing it and not asking what anyone thinks ~ you're bound to get not-so-nice answers from some and others who say go for it.. this has been a pretty "hot" topic on quite a few threads that have turned out "ugly"... just a little fyi..

I thought you stated that you never broke Disney rules. If you get an ADR for 3 when you only have one person in your party, then you'll be breaking Disney rules.

I think what I will do, is call and try to get an ADR for three, if / when I do, I'll keep calling, and try to switch it to one. If I can only get the three, then maybe I'll try to get a friend to join me for dinner that night.

I think you're fine, only because Disney doesn't really give the solo diner a choice.

As far as "cheating" a larger party out of a table - using the same logic, the party of three would be cheating out the party of four who would fill the table - so hardly a leg to stand on there.

Actually, you are trying to cheat the system.

In this case, though, the system is fundamentally flawed and you're not a bad person for doing so.

Disney can and will accommodate a party of 1 when they have the availability. Just like they can and will accommodate for a party of 2, 3 or 15 when they have the ability.

Is it right for me to make ADR's for a party of six when there will only be 3 of us ONLY b/c they don't have a table for 3 at the time when I want it? No.

I have had to opt out of many ADR plans b/c they didn't have seating for 3. I sucked it up b/c I would NEVER EVER take a table for more people away from someone who could use it.

I don't think this is wrong at all. I highly doubt that there are any '1 person' tables, so if someone is dining by themselves, are they not allowed to eat at a TS restaurant, just so that table can be used for 3 people?

Personally, I wouldn't go to WDW during the free Dining thing-I imagine the restaurants are overly crowded.

I love going during free dining because it's such a great deal. And I'm really looking foward to having the deluxe plan this trip.

There is nothing inherently wrong with making a reservation for a table in which you have no intention of ever filling all the seats at that table. If Disney were truly conscious of or against this happening, they would impose a penalty of, say, $10 per individual who does not show up. This may end up being the case once the online reservations become a part of our diets - that is if they start taking CCs in order to book online. But that's another thread.

While some TS locations have counters for the single individual, and those can be rather fun, i.e. Cali Grill, Flying Fish, Jiko, sometimes only a table is available (or not) and I say you do whatever you have to do to get it. For anyone who complains that you are taking that table away from them, they should have called sooner.

It's not survival of the fittest, it's first come first served.

This is my plan as of right now.

1) Call every day and try to get an ADR for a party of one.
2) If nothing's available call back, and try to get an ADR for a party of three.
3) Repeat every day until I get an ADR.

If I get a party of three, I'll invite my friend, if he can't join me, I'll try to keep getting an ADR for one, and cancelling the one for three. If I don't get an ADR I'll try for a walk-in at opening.

Perhaps my math is off but...

You are making reservations for three. You plus your CM friend are still only 2. You are still reserving a table for a party of a different size. I'm not sure how this changes the rightness/wrongness of your plan.

Singles and doubles are generally placed at tables of 2 while groups of three are placed at four tops - adding your CM friend doesn't change anything.
