A co-worker of mine is selling her Cannon Rebel D300 with a 28mm-200mm Sigma lens for $350.00.
I currently have a Fuji f6500 that I like for low light stuff but wouldn’t mind having another camera to keep in my work car for those shots that ‘pop-up’.
Is this a good price and what are your opinions on it?

Its going to depend on what kind of shape the Canon is in. How many shutter clicks has it had? That body is probably rated at about 25,000 clicks or so.

I'm guessing that you'd put the Fuji in your car for those shots that "pop-up".

The 28-200mm lens is ok. Nothing great. Good focal range, but not very wide. If your into low light stuff you can get the Canon 50mm f/1.8 for about $80. You can also find the basic kit lens for cheep money on ebay (about $60) that would give you the 18-50mm range.

They don't make the 300D any longer, but its still a very good camera, especially for those looking to enter into dSLR photography.

The 300D is one step before the XT. It was somewhat crippled by the firmware if I remember correctly.

My bad. Your correct. From what I could find about the firmware. It was subject to hacking. But a lot of people would use the hack to enable some of the features that the 10D had. Couldn't find much more, but I didn't look real hard. Maybe someone else knows more.

Looks like that price is pretty good for what used ones are going for. Body only in excellent condition goes for about $300. A used Sigma 28-200mm lens in excellent condition goes for about $130.

That's a really old camera. It was still the current Rebel way back when I bought my camera. Be forewarned, I've had a lot of trouble winning the photo contest with such an old camera.

It was my bread and butter camera for a few years before I upgraded to the 40D. Incidentally, I sold mine last October with about 40,000 clicks plus kit lens, and the vertical battery grip for $350 on ebay.

It's a decent camera and good for beginners. But its buffer is not very large compared to today's sizes so you'll get some lag after 2-3 pictures using Raw format. You might as well get a gently used XT or XTi on some of the Canon forums if you want a "cheap" beginner camera.

That lens isn't wide enough for everydays in my opinion. If I had to start over w/ a budget, I'd grab a used XTi and the Sigma 18-200 OS as a walkaround lens. Otherwise, there are tons of people selling their 18-55mm kit lens and as someone stated, the 50 f/1.8 is only around $80 which is a great low light lens for the price.
