I just read this on another site.

Resort News - (4/18/05) Screamscape has heard that the Contemporary’s South Wing will close down for refurbishment from May 30th to October 31st.

How will this affect people that are booked at this resort? We're going July 25th - August 3rd...I want to be in the North Wing, so I guess I'll get that if the South wing is closed, but I just wonder if this would cause Disney to 'bump' some guests as in years past (like when CBR was down for rehab).

Do you think we should switch to the Polynesian or GF? Thanks!

I'm giving this a bump bc we'll be there in July too. I can't believe they would do this during their busy season! Its gotta be wrong! :sad2: Right????? :confused3 Anyone out there in the know???

Wouldn't you think they would have taken those rooms out of their inventory. So if you have a reservation you must be in the North wing and when the tower and north wing are full they are showing capacity? I would think they would work it very similar as to when they gave the south wing to SOG for their refurbishment. I know that SOG had x number of rooms available at the CR and then when they showed full you had to overflow book with CR or switch resorts. I'm sure someone else will know but I would believe that they would have taken the rooms out of their inventory for the time they will be unavailable. Too bad this didn't come up before I left or I'd have asked them when I was there last month!

I've been watching this news also. We are booked in September, 2 rooms, standard wings. We booked our rooms back in July 2004, so not sure if they knew then that they would be refurbishing. I'm hoping to stay there and not get moved, unless it's to the tower. If I wanted to be at the Poly, I would've booked the Poly. Hubby didn't want to stay there, because he said it looks too run down. We will have a infant with us, that's why we choose the CR because we can walk to MK, and the rooms are so much more larger.

This is also why we chose the CR. We will have an-almost three year old and a one year old with us and I was planning on walking to MK most of the time. I hope these refurb plans don't mess up our vacation.

Unlike when some of the other resorts were taken down for refurbishment due to a sudden downturn in attendance, I think that the CR rehab has been long planned, so those rooms were taken out of inventory so time ago. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Unlike the POR and CBR refurbs where the entire resort was closing, in this case it's only a part of the resort.

What's the worry?

Think of it this way - less people to fight for monorail and restaurants :)

Right. I'll be in the CR Tower May 31-June 5th...I have no problem with fewer people at the pool, etc.

I'll be in the tower Dec 1-8th and also have no problem with less people! Maybe they will bump me to concierge to give the wing people my basic tower room!

I'll take it!! My only concern is that I don't want to be moved to another resort! But I'm not going to worry about. By September, we will know more. I'm off to WDW next week so will deal with my September trip later.

I called the Contemporary directly and was told that yes, the south garden wing will be closed June to Oct for rehab. The CM told me that this was taken into account for reservation purposes and that no one will be bumped to another resort if they have reservations for the Contemporary. I guess that means we'll be in the North wing!

OK help me out, I have ressie's for Oct 15 thru 22, wanted to stay tower again, but have not saved enough money, anyhow i asked for the wing that was closest to MK., look in my ressie and it just says (WING VARIABLE), so which side is cloest to MK. North or South.

thanks :)

North. It's also closer to the snack bar area and the tower IMO. We have stayed in both wings and found the South wing to be similar to hiking across the desert!

Thanks for all the info and replies. I am now looking at it as a good thing - I will be in the north wing (unless miraculously upgraded to the tower, but we're never lucky like that) AND there will be less people at the pool, restaurants and on the monorail and buses. :goodvibes I'm even MORE excited about it now that I think about it.

Can't it be here tomorrow? I really need some pixie dust and fast! :wizard:

We are scheduled for CR Garden Wing in August, but I'm not worried, I think they may have taken them out of inventory. I'm thinking that the pool will be less crowded and if anything we'd be bumped to another deluxe.
