is this true

Because they need to ? Because it fits with the staff schedule? (or the coaster company they contract?)

Rehabs happen all year round. August isn't the busiest month of the year. People complain if they rehab during Halloween, Christmas, Spring Break Presidents' Week, Easter....I haven't seen how long this one is going to last, but events and activities largely go year round.

Jan- NYD, MLK jr
Feb V- day, Pres week,
March/April- Spring break, Easter
May- Mem day
June schools let out
July 4th
August???
Sept- Labor day
Oct- Columbus day, Halloween
No- Veteran's day, T-day
Dec- Xmas

Plus crowds from South America, Jersey Week, Marathons, Cheer events, Graduations, weddings, corporate events,...

They need an extended time to work on it. And I imagine it was a pretty high priority not to close it over Christmas or spring break.

This was actually originally scheduled to be down while we were there in May over Memorial Day and it got pushed back.

There never really is a good time to take a ride down anymore with crowds being more evening spread out.

This work has been pushed back already. It always stinks when something is down on your vacation, but it has to be done

Agreed that it sucks! In five years of going in Aug we've only had one ride be closed (pirates last year). That's a really good record. I guess we were about due

Because Disney can do whatever they please whenever they please. I missed POC last year too...

I would rather say that a theme park that is open 365 days a year needs to do maintenance when it fits into their schedule. They can't go out and ask all the visitors who have already booked trips what rides they want to go on and base it on that. They can't go out and ask millions more if they planned a Disney World trip during this time and what would they want to ride.

During my father's last years of his life, he and my stepmother when to Disney World with us and we toured Magic Kingdom (this was before MagicBands and preselecting FastPasses) and my stepmother said the one thing she and my father wanted to do was it's a small world. I had to tell her (my father couldn't speak very much) that it was down for a refurb. She was dismayed but communicated that to my father and his response to her was classic. He "said", that's OK - there's plenty more to see and do.

That's too bad that your father did not get to go on It's a Small World, but glad he was able to visit WDW. I think it's too bad there are people who will never get at least one trip there. When my great-grandmother was dying in 1997 my grandparents took her down to WDW. It's a Small World was one of the ones she wanted to do too. Luckily, she was able to get on it. I don't think I've ever appreciated it as much as others do. But, it seems to be a ride that people really feel a connection with.

BTMRR is being refurbished in august. why would they refurb such a major attraction during the summer.

Because they have to spread out all the refurbs throughout the year. If they are closing for 3 months, they are going to hit some 'busy' time no matte when they schedule it. If not summer, then Thanksgiving, or Christmas, or Spring Break will be affected. They can't close everything at once.

Yup. The days of an off-season are gone. There is no "down" time anymore. If they closed it later, there would be a thread about why would they refurb a major attraction during MNSSHP, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, etc. ?

I would advise checking the rehab schedule before booking any trip so as to not be so surprised. Something will always be down.

Ah I didn't think to check the refurb schedule and am sad to see BTMRR will be down as it's my favorite. However, last year I got super lucky because Pirates was scheduled to be down while I was there and then got pushed back to 2 days after my trip ended, and in December our last day was the first day the PeopleMover came back up from refurb. We were too lucky I guess haha but it's okay this gives me another reason to plan a future trip! I agree that with the parks being so popular there really is no "good" time to bring things down for refurb.
