Is This True ?

I ran into an interesting situation yesterday while at Wal-mart. I was at the sporting goods counter looking for some ammo so the boys and I could go shooting. I dont really check it that closely but it sure looked to be light on inventory. I asked the clerk if they had any .38 ammo and he said no, they were all out of every brand, I asked about .357 and he said the same thing. He went on to say that the only pistol ammo they had was .40 (too bad I havent bought that new Glock I want so bad) and that their rifle ammo was very limited. I asked him if they have had a recent run on ammo and he relied that since November they have been out. Coincidence ? I dont think so.
People in this country are just plain unsure of whats coming next.

Scott, I had posted on another thread that there is a 95,000 person backlog on concealed weapons applications permits in the state of Florida right now. It goes right along with what you just posted.

I have dealt with firearms for 27 years in the Army, but never personally owned one. My reason was that, statistically, more people are killed by accidental shootings in the home than by home intrusion, and since the kids were little, I didn't want to take the chance of accidentally killing one of them at night or hesitating to shoot because of the kids and ending up being shot by an intruder. The kids are grown, and the crime locally is getting out of hand (the sandwich shop in the neighborhood of my office was robbed at noon on a Sunday by a guy with a shotgun a couple of weeks ago) so I'm getting armed.

We were the same way, wouldn't have a gun in the house while DS and his friends were around, boys will be boys. When he moved out we bought a few.

We've always had firearms in the house because DH used to hunt, and he & I would go to a local gun range for target & skeet shooting. Now, my DH has one rifle that was the only thing he ever got from his dad (30 ott 6), one Remington 12 gauge that my dad bought him, a 22 pistol & some German WWII pistol thingy. The rifles are in a gun case in the attic, the 22 is in his nightstand, and the German WWII pistol thingy is in a box in the attic.

The last time I handled the 22 was when I put it in the nightstand 5 years ago.

We live in a gated, 24 hour guard community, but are not stupid to think nothing will happen. The guard will only stop vehicular traffic. The back side of the community is bordered by a county spray field with a wire fence on the border. If someone wanted to get in, they could easily do so.

Due to the fact our neighborhood is the nicest in the area (not saying much because most of the other neighborhoods are old, decrepid, mobile homes on lots) and - we are sitting in the middle of all the meth labs in the north side of the county - we have had a few homes suffer hit & run robberies. Thankfully for us, our home sits smack dab in the middle, and it's doubtful that even a hepped up druggy would venture that far in to hit our house. It is possible however - and we keep the 22 close at hand.

Good to know Deb! :thumbsup2

Oh and by the way..I'm re-thinking that "surprise visit" to your house in May!:rotfl:

Take a garbage can lid and hold it in front of you like a shield. Maybe put your green DIS sign on the lid. Just keep announcing "Underwear Fairy, I come in peace!" and you should be safe. :lmao:

America, Canada , all Europe .....need a President like this

Prime Minister John Howard Australia:
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians'.

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'. 'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American and Canadian citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths.

There is a wonderful website called snopes.com. I look up everything people send me like this because ignorance is a freightful thing.:scared: I was surprised (and happy) to hear this one was true.

It appears that the makers of ammuniton are too busy running the lines for military ammo due to Iraq and other missions, that civillian ammo is getting harder to come by. No extra shooting at work and requalifications are closely monitored. They run the .40cal and 9mm lines often enough to just keep up with our glocks.

I've been retired from the Army for over 2 years now, but the last time we were on the range, the military loads were real crap. I never saw so many malfunctions due to bent casings. It was as if they were reloads, but that is not supposed to be. I sure hope they weren't sending the same ammo to Iraq and Afghanistan.

I'm not a hunter, and I've never been a gun person, but.... I just applied for my firearms purchaser's ID. :thumbsup2
