Is this true...Splitting up a BWV 2 br?

For this year's F&W stay I booked a BWV 1 br and a studio separately for the same nights. Friends were dealing with an elderly parent during the 11 month booking window and were unable to commit to something that far out.

As it turned out they were able to go with us. When I called MS to add a "travel with" to the reservation, the CM asked me why I did not just book a 2 bedroom. When I explained the reason she said, "Oh, we split 2 bedrooms all the time."

Now I thought this was very iffy to ever get a CM to split a 2 br. Is it really that common? I am getting ready to book again for next year and not sure what to book. We ended up on different floors this year so it would be nice to have the connecting 2 br. But I do not want to risk it if we end up going alone.

BWV only has lock offs. The 2BR are made up of a studio and a 1BR with connecting door and each has its own hallway door. We have a similar issue coming up. About to book for F&W next year...1BR for us and studio for in-laws. To book separately costs more points than just booking a 1BR but DH and SIL (siblings) insist we have separate rooms. Well, even though it's a 2BR, it can definitely be used as separate rooms. And if I book them separate and link us as a travel with, they likely will give us a 2BR lockoff anyway. So why not save some points????? Though we did two studios this past F&W and I didn't link as a travel with because we wanted quickest availability. So I could do that again and we would be far apart.

If there is little or no danger of them cancelling on you, just book the 2 bedroom. Then lock the connecting door from your side and tell the in-laws they can do the same. (If they still insist, ask them to reimburse you for the extra points needed to book separately). Of course the keys will work in either door to the outside, but they don't need to know that. Even if they do know or you choose to tell them, it would seem all of you could just resist the temptation to enter each others' room without knocking and being invited.

Checked my dates and it's only 8 more points to book separate so that's what I will do. In-laws aren't definitely coming so this way I can rent it out or cancel it if in-laws don't come.

If you book as a 2BR, no they won't want to split because the separate rooms cost more points so you'd have to book separate to begin with.
I see...split prior to trip so you can drop one part....hmmmmmm. Probably not supposed to. Supposed to cancel and hope you can rebook the part you need without waitlist grabbing it up before you. I suppose a manager knows how but not sure how willing MS is to do this. I, personally, wouldn't risk it.

If I understood correctly OP had a CM that said they split them all the time which is not my experience.

I also was told that if you book as a 2 bedroom, you can't then just cancel out part of it later on. This was about 4 years ago and have heard of situations where people have had success. But, I think the norm is not to do that.

The thing with BWV is all the 2 bedrooms are lockoffs but about half of studios and 1 bedrooms are dedicated, which means no connection. So if you book separate, you may not be able to get a connection.

Back in the stone age, when DVC was more flexible, they would let you do this. But like most things, people took advantage, others got upset when they were told that an exception couldn't be made for them (folks who hadn't been booked in a lock-off and didn't see why it should matter for example). So, because DVC is ultimately a business, they ended the practice of keying the two sides of a 2BR lock-off differently for two separate parties.

As with all things Disney, there is always the pixie dust exception, but I wouldn't go expecting it to happen as a rule. Book what you know you can be happy with during your trip. The headaches on a trip aren't worth 8 points to me.

Good luck. The "travel with" did not get us even on the same floor. I was hoping to get connecting rooms.

Splitting could mean simply having the guests in each side simply having their magic bands linked to individual charge cards, that can easily be done at the front desk.

We had a 1 bedroom and a studio this summer and asked to be connected. Of course no guarantee, but they did do it. I was completely surprised and never expected it. So it does happen, but I know we were lucky!

I am aware of several situations where they split a lockoff into separate components in the last couple of years but it was where one side was being canceled and the other side charged the points appropriate for that smaller villa. At one time this was not possible but I get the sense it is now if you have a lockoff booked.

We had one in Sept. MY DH and I had a one bedroom booked for 6 nights and because of the hurricane, my DD and grandkids stayed for 2 extra nights. We just needed the studio for those two nights. We checked with the front desk, they gave us a lockoff and when my daughter checked out, we closed and locked the door. MS took the points like we had a 1 bedroom and studio.
