Today at lunch with my friends the topic turned to pregnancies/maternity leave and someone told me if you work at Disney World they give you 100% paid maternity as soon as you start to "show" because pregnancy doesn't fit the "disney image". Despite my trips to Disney I couldn't recall in my mind a single instance of seeing an obviously pregnant CM...now I am intensly curious--does anyone know if this is truly a Disney policy???

Thanks! :scratchin

Do not know if it is a policy but I have seen a visibly pregnant cast member performing in a Walt Disney World stage show. It was not, however, in a theme park, but at Pleasure Island.

Might have been a different story if she'd been hired to play Snow White though.

Your friend is full of it.

They have designed pregnacy versions of certain costumes to fit a growing tummy.

At DL, there is a nice CM at the Market House and we've even talked about how she likes the new expectant mommy outfits.

Also, at DL, if a CM is in a physical job, they tend to reassign pregnant CMs to the baby center.

I believe they allow 60 days of paid maternity leave.

Can't say that was covered in my training when I worked at Vero Beach. I had a coworker who was very pregnant and she just quit doing physical things and worked in the office.

But she wasn't excommunicated from public viewing just b/c of how she looked (pregnant).

LOL, funniest thing I have heard all day.

Not true...at least not here in California at Disneyland. And I would imagine that is a company wide policy so I doubt that WDW would be any different.

I have a friend who works in Fantasy land in the MK in WDW. She stayed in Fantasy land for the entire pregnancy. She had the option to move elsewhere if she wanted less time on her feet, but she stayed in Fantasy land throughout the pregnancy.

Heck, after the baby was born the parents said if they ever really needed her to sleep they would take her in the park to see the fireworks. :lmao: The theorized that since she had heard them every night while in Mom's tummy that it comforted her.

DD just finished the Disney College Program and she worked with 2 CM's that were pregnant.

I remember seeing a pregnant CM running a ride... Pooh, I think. I would imagine that WDW may offer a different job if there are any available for CMs that work in the hot sun all day.

Absolutely NOT true

Yes, I thought this sounded a little crazy!!! I just nodded and smiled while thinking to myself (I'm gonna check this out on DIS boards when I get home...). :) Although, I'm glad to know that Disney takes care of the mamas and keeps them out of the hot sun! :)

If (definitely the operative word here) I was a woman, forty years younger, working at WDW, and they had 100% paid leave for all showing months... IF all that was true... I think I'd get pregnant every year! Again, a lot of really big ifs going... :upsidedow

We had a very pregnant server at O'Hana last year.

Definitely NOT true.

We had a very pregnant female bartender at 50s Prime Time in June.

Not Disney related but when my Mom was pregnant with me back in 1968/69 she was taken off her normal job where everyone could see her and put in the office out of public view. This was a furniture factory in Lexington NC and thats the way the did things.

We did, also. It was the week after Christmas and the poor thing looked very tired. She was a great server though, and we had fun with her. She was from Pittsburgh, and we are from Cincinnati.

That would have been awesome but...not true! I worked at All Star Music guest services when I was pregnant. Worked out on the desk until I was about 8 1/2 months and then worked in the back office so I could sit.

I would think that would be a form of discrimination, paid or not, so I don't think they could do that if they wanted to. To say they don't want you cause of your appearance would be quite offensive to many I am sure.
