Is this true- no more turkey legs?

Why does the turkey taste like ham?????????? :confused3
Because they are smoked. Smoking is what makes a ham not pork. Therefore it gives the turkey a slightly ham like flavor too.

As for selling turkey legs, Disney still sells them and will never stop. They sell on average between six and seven thousand legs a day.

Thanks for the info :)
I thought it was jsut me or something. I had to take a pic of my DD5 the last time we went. She wanted one and it looked about half the size of her whole body it was so huge :teeth:

If you get a really good one it'll taste very close to a Smithfield country ham. I do wish that Disney would offer a short course on Turkey Leg Courtesy. There are few things in WDW more disgusting than seeing a gnawed poultry leg that's been flung into a flower bed.

Here is a list of where you can find the turkey legs from allearsnet.com:

Animal Kingdom: Snack wagon located on the walkway between Asia and Dinoland USA.

Disney-MGM Studios: Toluca Legs Turkey Company located on Sunset Boulevard in Sunset Market.

Epcot: Snack wagon located between Mouse Gear and Mission Space; snack wagon located outside the America Gardens Theatre near the American Adventure.

Magic Kingdom: Turkey Leg Wagon in Frontierland across from Country Bears; The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland across from Buzz Lightyear.

Oh, thank goodness. They said on allearsnet that they closed the turkey leg booths in 2001 and didn't know when they would reopen. Only on this board could I come here and admit to being upset about possibly missing out on DW turkey legs! I don't know whether to laugh or cry at myself...

I was there Aug of 2003 and they were there... Are you sure you read that right?

Hmmm not sure I agree with all those that love them so much. I kind of expected it to taste like...umm...well...turkey???? So eating a ham is not the same thing. That's okay though. More for all of you and I'll just have some other yummy ooey gooey Disney snacks, oaky?! :teeth: :mickeybar

They were still selling them yesterday. Just got back last night.... :guilty:
No offense to the turkey leg lovers but the only word I can use to describe them is ickey...... Too many hidden "things" in turkey legs.

I'm just wondering where the rest of the turkey parts go.... things that make ya go 'Hmmmmmm......'

We were in WDW from Mar 12-18. DH had a turkey leg in Epcot (in front of Mission Space) and at MK (somewhere in Frontierland).

So, they are definitely still around.

Saw something on either Food Channel or Travel that said those legs come from 50 to 60 pound birds. I remember reading somewhere recently that there are no longer turkey leg vendors in AK. I could be wrong, but I do have to say, I couldn't buy a turkey leg there anyway. I would always wonder if just maybe it was really one the emus that ran too slow :earboy2:

Ditch the skin, it's greasy. With the proper technique, you'll be able to remove the bone slivers and pare away the sweat meat right on down to the bone. Good stuff! :teeth:

I sincerely hope you meant "sweet meat", rather than "sweat meat". :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

(Though, since sweet and meat rhyme, it would make sense if they were both spelled the same. Then again, you could go to a "sweet meet", where everybody gets together to pig out on desserts.) :earboy2:

When I was on the WDW College program I used to have to dig those gnawed pieces out of the Lunching Pad's flower beds! :crazy2: I don't think I could ever personally eat one after that! :goodvibes

After reading so many posts about turkey legs here on the DIS, DH and I decided to try one. We got them at TL. Oh my word, it was horrible. Greasy, tough and chewy, and didn't taste a thing like turkey. Once was enough for us. I can't help but wonder what people see in these things. Nasty!! To each his own....

I'd have to agree that 'sweat meat' does sound a tad on the nasty side. :teeth: But if we're going to have a 'sweet meet', I'd suggest that we hold it at Ghirardelli's. I'm a fool for that place!

six or seven thousand :earseek: that's alot of poor turkeys on crutches! :rotfl:

I would totally cancel my October trip if this were true...

Oh god, those turkey legs are just the nastiest things. After seeing them and hearing about them for years and years my husband and I decided to try one. I don't know what they inject those things with, but it's a very salty nitrate-like substance.....awful. Then you're fighting your way through tendons and cartilage.... I love meat, but after three bites of one of those things it went in the trash. My husband took maybe four bites. Yuck.
