Is this true? Boardwalk daybed is tiny???

I've been calling CRO at least once a day to see if something in concierge in the Polynesian opens up. So far, it hasn't. The CMs have been very nice though, trying to help me decide on an alternative.

I told the CM this afternoon that I had it narrowed down to either the Wilderness Lodge Concierge, the Grand Floridian Lodge Concierge, the Boardwalk concierge, or a non-concierge room at the Polynesian.

When I told him that I was probably going to take the WL off the list because my sons are basically too big for the bunk beds now, he told me that the daybeds at the Boardwalk are considered "child sized", meant for a child up to age 9. I have never heard this before, but I haven't really done much research on the Boardwalk. Is this true? Are the daybeds at the BWI smaller than the daybeds elsewhere? I asked him about the daybeds at the Yacht & Beach Clubs and he said those were regular sized.

Anyone have firsthand info on this?? Thanks!

They've done remodeling since we have been there so maybe things have changed, but it was a standard twin size mattress, as are the bunk beds at AKL and WL. My 5'10" and 5" 11" sons did fine in the bunks at both AKL and WL. I know they do appear smaller, but maybe because we haven't had twin beds at home in a few years.

The problem with the bunkbeds at the WL was with the headroom clearance. Otherwise, the length and the width of the beds were fine. My sons are about the same heights are your sons, and especially with the bottom bunk, they had to basically slide themselves in from the side of the bed in a lying down position so they wouldn't hit their heads on the top bunk. lol They dealt with it fine, but it wasn't the most comfortable sleeping situation. lol

Not sure if they're the same or not but the day beds in the BW Villas are larger than a crib size mattress but MUCH smaller than a twin size mattress. There's no possible way a larger child would fit in those daybeds. My 8 yo is 44" and 33 lbs - VERY small for 8 and it was a perfect size for him.

I thought all the deluxes could sleep 5? Not 4 adults and a small child. When we were at the Polynesian, I regularly slept in the 'day bed'. It was a regular twin size bed. At BW, in some of the villas, there is a day bed, in addition to the queen bed, and sleep sofa. And it is, indeed, tiny. It was useful for putting on shoes or storing bags on, but I wouldn't want someone to sleep on it. It's really more of a bench, not a day bed. Have you checked out any room photos of the rooms at BW?? They might help.

I haven't stayed there yet but I remember reading the daybeds are smaller at BWI.

Have you considered the deluxe concierge rooms? They sleep six. 2 qn beds + a qn sofa bed. Then you would also be guaranteed the BW view. :)

The daybeds at the BW Inn are the same as the Yacht and Beach. Smaller than the Contemporary or Polynesian, which are the new futon type twin bed.

Here is a photo of the BW Inn one.

The one at the BW villas is really small.

Thanks for the info, everyone, but I still am unclear; Was the CM incorrect? Are the daybeds at the BWI (in a regular non-deluxe) concierge room large enough for an adult to sleep on?? I want 3 beds in the room so that my DSs don't have to share a bed.

At any rate, today I booked a room at the Grand Floridian in the Sugar Loaf concierge building. I am still going to keep calling and hoping that a Polynesian concierge room opens up. Maybe we'll save the Boardwalk for the next adults-only trip :)

Sammie, we've never stayed at any of the Epcot resorts, so I'm not sure of the size of the daybeds at the Y&B Club, so the comparison to the daybeds there doesn't do me any good. :teeth: But thanks for the link to the photo, it actually looks like a regular-sized daybed.

The BWI daybed looks just like the picture another poster posted above and the mattress is 60 inches long. The BWI room is 390 sq. ft.

Here is a picture I found of the daybed at the Poly -- looks about the same size as the BWI one to me.

The daybeds at the BW Inn as shown in the photo are not as large as a twin bed. That said, certainly an adult can sleep on them, not sure how comfortably though. That is subjective.

I for one would not want to sleep on them.

Most likely what Disney has started doing, is give this info you recieved so they don't recieve complaints from adults about the comfort or lack of when an adult sleeps on them.

They are not as long or as wide as a twin bed. Also due to the fact that you have an arm rest at each end, it is hard to stretch out, and the same with the slats in the back of the bed.

OK, thanks, I think I understand now; the daybeds at the BWI (and also several other Deluxe resorts) are NOT a regular twin-sized bed, but it's not as tiny as the CM had led me to believe. I am surprised that he said "The daybeds at the BWI are very small, someone no older than a 9-year old could sleep on them. But the daybeds at the Yacht & Beach Club resorts are bigger, and an adult could sleep on them". SO from what I understand now, he was incorrent, since apparently the daybeds in those 3 resorts are the same size. He seemed to be trying hard to steer me away from the Boardwalk Inn! :confused3

Thanks again everyone for helping me to solve this. :teeth:

I think that reading the DIS boards should be mandatory training for the CMs at CRO. Then maybe they'd know what they're talking about. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Well, that might do more harm than good, since they need the CMs to warn guests about things that would dissatisfy the guest much more so than they need CMs to encourage guests about things that are matters of opinion. I know some folks who would be very upset if they were led to believe that they could sleep comfortably on the daybed. "Better safe than sorry" wins out.

No, my point is that he told me that the Y&B Club's daybeds were different size than the BWI daybeds, and apparently THAT is incorrect. I was leaning towards booking the BWI concierge and he gave me misinformation, apparently. If he's going to "warn" about the size of the daybeds at BWI, then he should be saying the same thing about the size of the daybeds at Y&B Club, and other resorts with the same sized daybeds.

I had a very long conversation with this CM; I told him that my main priorities were: Concierge, having 3 beds so DSs could each have a bed (and we had a conversation about the fact that my DSs are 18 and 15 and are bigger than DH and I), and I wanted a concierge lounge that did not close down between offerings.

When I call CRO, I want FACT, NOT OPINION. This CM did NOT tell me that the BWI concierge lounge was open all day, UNLIKE the lounges at Y&B Club. He was clearly trying to influence which resort I chose, by giving me his opinion.

So I still stand by what I said; The CMs would learn a lot if they read the DIS boards ;)

Agreed, that's what he should be saying.

Sammie, are you positive the daybed at BWI is the same size as those at Y&BC? We've not stayed at BWI but it always seems to be described as child sized.

Seaspray, we have stayed at the BC and I din't think your sons would be comfortable on those daybeds. They have thin mattresses as I recall and for sure are smaller than the Polynesian daybeds. Our two youngest have both slept on it in past years but they are 5" as adults.

I have a question for you about WL concierge rooms. I thought WL rooms either had two doubles or a bed (don't remember the size) and bunkbeds. Would those configurations work for your sons?

SeaSpray, unless the BWI has recently remodeled their rooms, including furniture, then the daybed is most definitely smaller than the ones at Y&B Club. I don't think either of your sons would be comfortable sleeping on it according to their height.
Good luck with your planning! GF Sugarloaf sounds great if you can't get the Polynesian.

It's been three or four years since we stayed at the BWI, but the daybed was NOT a twin. Like Debbie said, it was not as long as a twin bed, and perhaps a bit more narrow. It would be fine for an average single digit child, but no way either of Sea Sprays boys would fit in it.

I'd say it was between four and five feet long.

Thanks for the replies, everyone :)

BCV23: Yes, the bed configurations at the WL and AKL would be ok (as long as we got a room with a queen bed and bunk beds again), but would not be ideal, only because the headroom between the 2 bunk beds is not very high. We stayed there last summer and DSs did ok with it, but especially my DS who slept on the bottom bunk, had to be very careful getting in and out of bed, not to bang his head on the top bunk. lol

I did think of booking a deluxe room at the WL, but for some reason DS15 doesn't care for that resort at all. DH and I on the otherhand LOVED the WL. And not that we let DSs make the decisions about where we stay, but since they won't be with us on many trips to WDW, I ask their opinions on where they'd like to stay. DH and I make the final decision, of course. As a family, we ALL prefer the Polynesian resort, but when I told them that it was either a regular room at the Polynesian or a concierge room at the Grand Floridian or Wilderness Lodge, they both chose the Grand Floridian. :teeth: They like concierge. :goodvibes And we've stayed at the GF before and liked the resort.

I'm glad now that I decided to book the GF SLC, because I know my DS15 will be fine on the daybed there. I still want to try out an Epcot resort, but like I said in an earlier post, we'll do that on a trip when the boys aren't with us.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone who replied :)

The 3rd bed at BWI is NOT classified as a daybed, but rather as a CHILD'S BED. The dimensions are 35"x65" which is about the size of a standard beach towel. At 5'4" I certainly would not consider it a comfortable place to sleep.

The 3rd bed at Y&BC is classified as a daybed and the mattress more closely resembles a twin sized bed. I've never personally been in a room with a daybed at Y&BC so I can't confirm the actual dimensions but I would imagine it to be similar to the old daybeds at the Polynesian which were significantly larger than the child's bed at BWI.
