Is this too personal? Sharing about costs

We went in October (Sunday Oct 23rd through to Friday Oct 28th)
I think it came to between $1300-$1400
We plan to go again when we can get another cheap entertainment rate deal at Hojo or elsewhere.
The price should be lower for our next trip since we can use our annual pass and gas is a bit cheaper right now (around $2.53/gallon)

5 nights Hojo (Entertainment rate incl tax) - $330
Drive from San Jose to Anaheim roundtrip - $100
Snacks, drinks (water, milk, juice), breakfast items (we brought our own) - $40
3 annual passes - 229 x 3 = $687
Meals (lunch and dinner outside the park in $6 lunch place restaurants...with food left over) 5 x 30 = $150
Souvenirs (from Walmart) - $30
Total = $1337

Airfare to LAX from Denver for 4 people: $758.00

Amy&Dan,

Just curious -- how do you get airfare from LAX to DEN for $758 for 4 people. We usually can't get anything under $275 per person roundtrip DEN - LAX. I'm hoping fares start going down with Southwest coming back to Denver in January, but I haven't seen great prices yet. Thanks!

American Airlines thru Expedia. When I first began the booking process, booking thru American was more expensive. But I checked their website a few days ago and noticed it was the same price as what I got on Expedia. You might also check TED going into Ontario, we have gotten as good a deal that way. I usually find flying into Orange County to be the most expensive right now, too bad it is so much more convenient!

P.S. Our flight coming home is at 6:30 a.m., (OMG that's early) that saved some money too because if we came back later in the day the fare went up.

Our upcoming trip:

2 adults, 3 kids (one is under 3)
driving from Arizona to California

(2) 3-day adult PH passes and (2) 3-day child PH passes = $389.50
gasoline estimate for a big ol' van which gets bad mileage = $200.00*
4-night stay in a regular QQ room at the Carousel = $357.65
food for the car trip, snacks for the hotel = $100.00*
approx. (1) meal each day at the park = $120.00*
breakfast outside our room at most (2) of the days = $60.00*
souvenirs and misc. (we're not big on that stuff) = $100.00*

GRAND TOTAL = $1327.15 (*starred* amounts are overestimates; better safe than sorry)

Would you mind me asking where we can purchase those hopper passes? That is such a great deal!!

Hey Gang,

Just found the board. Obviously there is SO much more to trip planning that I ever knew possible. We are going with 2 adults, 2 toddlers, and a nanny on November 27th.

Taking a guess:

Trip package through WDL: $2800. Includes 4 nights at GC on concierge, passes to park.

Gas to and from: $300

Nanny Salary: $360 (that does count as an expense right?)

Meals: $500

Souvenirs: $200

YIKES! That's over $4000. I'll be anxious to see what it ends up being total. Thanks for sharing!

You know, I just have to toss this in here.....
When we were unsure about where the family reunion was going to be this year, I was doing some pricing out for WDW. Our family, because of the cost of flying to DL, could have had a week at a three bedroom condo with a pool and full kitchen, 2 weeks rental minivan (driving to and from Orlando--10 days needed, they charge you the 2 week rate because it's cheaper), 5 day hopper passes with a character meal thrown in for only $2200!
It's honestly cheaper staying and playing at WDW vs. DL, you get a lot more "deals".

For us, flying from Western Canada, it worked out to be alot more money to go to WDW.
So, off to DL in 13 days!!

Rikersmom and I are planning a trip out to DL next spring, and we are really trying to cut the corners (well, I am). Here goes:

2 r/t air from MCO to John Wayne or LAX: free using dad & son's frequent flyer miles

1 week at RCI timeshare: free (thanks, dad, if we can get one)

rental car: researching that one, but estimate between $150 - $200

Food: estimating about $150 between the two of us (we get a 20% discount for all Disney Dining)

Souvies: well...better not think about that, we could go crazy!

50th anniv. celebration memories: priceless

(sorry, I could not help myself).

Given that we can get the airfare & timeshare, I would guess that we would spend between $500 - $1000 (between the two of us). Even if we can't get the timeshare (we are trying for either of the 2 in Anaheim or the 2 in Laguna Beach), the hotel may not be too bad if we stay off property.

I just want to go! :earsboy:

Edit: 11/17: for some reason, my post doubled.

The next poster asked what my secret was for dining discounts - I work for the company. :earsboy:

Okay---what's your secret? I have a DDE and DVC card, both of which give some dining discounts at WDW--but is there a discount at DL as well? Or maybe you have a different plan...just wondering! :earsboy:

PS. Hope you get to stay in Laguna Beach!

OK here is my cheapest trip ever ...... brace yourselves.

History: Cast DH, myself, DDs at the time 8 and 5 and DS at the time 2. The summer of 2002 (July 4th weekend to be exact). Hubby was in the technology industry and this was after the bottom fell out. He had gone through three jobs and each paid less than the previous one. We were a family of five on a verrrry tight budget (I mean verrry tight), but we needed a vacation. Since he was at yet another new job with little or no vacation time, we almost had to pick a holiday weekend in order to have three days in disney parks, hence July 4th, knowing it would be crowded. Mind you I knew nothing about DIS boards or any such disney information out on the internet, this was by the seat of my pants.

We drove from AZ
We stayed at hotel with kitchette to cut down on cost of food (ie, not eating at restaurants or even disney cs). So the choice was Extended Stay America, a room with King bed (myself, DH and DS) and a pull out sofa (DDs) along with a kitchenette with 2 burner stovetop, dishes, etc.
We bought groceries on the night of arrival at local grocery store. (I did not count this in our budget since I would have done basically the same grocery shopping had we stayed at home)
We had three days at the parks. One day Disneyland, one day California Adventure, last day split between the two parks.
We limited each child to, $10, yes $10, to spend in gift shops.
We had a blast!

Cost break down (this is from memory so they are estimates, but the total is what I really remember)
Tickets: Approx $225 for 2 Adults and 2 Children (DS was 2 and free). Disney was having a special that included a discount on adult tickets and one free child's ticket for each adult purchase. So the kids were free!
Hotel: Booked online with internet special - $250.00 for 4 nights
Groceries: As I said, I didn't count these as I would have bought groceries at home anyway.
Gas: Approx $ 75 (about three tanks for minivan and remember gas was much cheaper then)
Misc spending including kids $10 for gift shop and some disney treats while watching parades - $50

Total cost - $600.00. Woo hoo!
5 family members, 4 nights hotel, 3 days at disney, 2 happy parents, 1 great vacation.

Even with the huge crowds, we did everything we wanted (except Peter Pan, but literally just about everything else at the parks). The kids never complained or asked to buy anything extra. Their $10 got them each 2 items in the gift shops (they were very careful with their choices and pleased with making their money stretch).
Hubby has since gotten a much, much better and more secure job in his old industry, healthcare. We have taken much more extensive and expensive vacations, but this one still ranks up there with the best of them. And, I plan to ride Peter Pan during our next WDW vacation this January, which will be much different with split stay at AKL, wilderness cabin, ADR's and the whole Disney package. Though it still might be hard to top the cheapest and best Disneyland vacation ever! :cool1:

We just returned a month ago

3 Deluxe Annual Passes - got a great deal - two adults and one 4 year old
$500
Airfare Sacramento to Ontario - $270 for 3
Hyatt Kids Suite - used Entertainment Card - $440 (included valet parking)
Food - $400
Souveniers - $150
Rental Car $98
Gas $20
Airport Parking - $28

Grand Total about $1900

Good news is our tickets are paid for on our next trip or 2 - we always drive to save money but this was our sons 4th Birthday so we splurged - He really wanted bunkbeds and we couldnt afford the Grand Californian so we did Hyatt

Hope his helps

Okay, here was mine.

Two adults, no children.

Travel: (By car but I got gas for free since it was part of my birthday gift)
Three Day Passes: (Free since it was a birthday gift)
Hotel: $280 total.
Food: $200-300
Souvineers: $125

Total $705 (It was a very cheap trip!)

*And mattnday, I'm in the Sacto area as well...what part of Sacto do you live? (You can PM me if you like.)

It's nice to hear that people who spent very little, and peiople who spent extravegently both thought it was "priceless" :).
We usually book Southwest air vacations Boise to LAX, 4-5 nights in an off site motel, and passes for 2 adults, one child for less than $1500. We spend very little for food etc, so say $1700 total.
