Is this tire gauge fixable?

Can it just be patched or do we need new tire? Is it going to burst on us if we drive a couple days before fixing?

You can't patch a sidewall, it weakens the whole tire. It needs to be replaced, I would avoid driving it if at all possible until you can get it replaced and if you absolutely must drive it, do so with the lightest possible load and lowest possible speeds.

The tire is slightly damaged. The cords are not showing, it is safe to drive for a while. I have seen much worse in my 17 years in the auto business. I mean really, you would probably be ok for a while if it was not replaced.

Agree with this. This happened to my husband's car a few years ago. It definitely needed to be replaced, but he continued to drive it for like 50 miles at freeway speeds before he got it fixed.

It is a bit hard to tell how much damage there is from those photos but certainly looks bad when the person can peel back some of the sidewall. It looks like the rim also has damage and depending how much might also need to be replaced. If the rim is sufficiently damaged it may not seal properly or be out of round. I would have the tire replaced as soon as possible and avoid driving until then. It appears there is a major amount of sidewall damage that might cause a blowout at any time without warning. If it was my vehicle I wouldn't take the risk of that happening.

Sidewalls should never be patched, and that's square in the middle of the sidewall. If there's any damage to the sidewall it has to be replaced. They're almost always nylon belts.

One second though, that only took out a chunk of the rubber. It wouldn't make me feel good about driving on it, but anything that could do that could also have caused damage to the belts that might not be visible.

Thanks all. It was me, the wife, who hit curb at MCO during chaos of the Wed night before Thanksgiving. No parking available and lots of traffic at 9pm when I had to pick up my mom (and then daughters who were over 1.5 hours behind my mom in landing...so I needed to park). Took to Pepboys today for new tire and got deal on all 4 tires (buy 2 get 2 free) but they had to ship from elsewhere so I have to go back tomorrow to get them on.
