Is this the best approach?

Next year I'm going to attempt to make a reservation that will require points from both of my membership contracts across multiple years. My thought process is currently to transfer the remaining 2022 points from one membership over to the other one and then bank them. In 2024 I will transfer all of the 2023 points over so that I now have the largest pool of points under a single membership that I can manage. This will still require that I borrow 80 points from a future year under one of the memberships. There is no home advantage on this booking it will be at 7 months regardless.

So would you go through the process of transferring them into a single membership, or is that just added unnecessary work and I could easily just combine the points while booking? I've never attempted to book a reservation that needed points from both memberships. The only time I've done something like this in the past it was minimal points and I had them transferred.

I think you can combine multiple contracts within one membership at 7 months, no problem. But if you have multiple memberships, then you will need to combine them into one membership to make the booking at 7 months.

I just book as split stay and mark as continuous. Transferring points leaves room for error.
My main thought of transferring into 1 is that it allows me to book a full week up front and then tack on to that until I reach the full length of my stay. In this approach I would need to wait until I hit 7 months a second time and book the additional days using the other membership.

I‘m not 100% sure, but I don’t think transferred points can be borrowed, so when deciding which membership to transfer into/out of take that into account.

In order to book, you will need to transfer but remember that points, even when transferred keep their own UY and can’t be borrowed for trips once they are moved.

You don’t mention what your two UYs are and when you travel but you need to be sure yoy don’t transfer points and then find out you need to borrow.

For example, if I want to book a June 2024 trip in my June UY and wanted points from my Dec UY, I can’t transfer the Dec 2024 points because to go in June, those would need to be borrowed as June 2024 happens in my Dec 2023 UY.

So, you want to be sure you account for that when plannkg.

Yeah I didn't mention the UY's because they're mostly irrelevant to the booking, the booking will be for June and the UYs are September and December. The full picture is something like this

Sept 2022 points banked
Dec 2022 points transferred to Sept contract, then banked (retain Dec UY but irrelevant)
Sept 2023 points awarded and 2022 points release from banking
Dec 2023 points transferred to Sept contract in early 2024 as 2023 transfer ability would already have been used

This would leave me just short of the full booking amount which I could then borrow from Sept 2024 under the membership which is now holding all of the points. for the June booking

So a June 2024 trip is in your 2023 Sept and Dec UY. So can use banked 2022 points, 2023 points and borrow 2024 points,

Transferring of points between the same owners are given more than one, so you don’t have to wait to do that, but it’s based on UY of the points, not calendar year.

The thing is that you can’t borrow any 2024 points that get transferred, so you wont have access to the Dec 2024 points to use if you transfer everything else into the Sept UY, but definitely can your Sept UY if you put all points into your Sept UY.

Its a lot to keep track of but if you don’t want to book part in each, it’s your only option. We rarely transfer and just book part with each because once they go, it cant Be reversed.

And, while UY isn’t relevant to when you can book, it is in determining which points one can use..though in your situation, You are traveling in the 2023 UY for both.

Interesting thank you, I wasn’t aware that same owner could do more than one transfer to themselves each year. I thought it was just once regardless.

They have changed it to allow this…it may not always happen, but for thr past few years, they have done it. I did it twice this year because I transferred, the. Had to change things, and had to transfer other points back because I messed things up…

Wont transfer again because even with just a total of 40 points between both, it has been a hassle.
