Is this rude or polite?

So, I was pulling in my driveway this morning after dropping DD off from school, and I see some woman messing w/our garbage can (its garbage day today). After a second, I see she has a dog on a leash, she says helllo to me (I don't know her) and she continues on her way. So after I park, I look in the garbage and I see, not on top, but almost buried towards the side a bag of dog poop in my garbage can. I can't decide if it was polite of her to pick up her dog poop and not leave it in our yard, or if it was rude to put the stinky mess in my garbage can instead of carrying it with her.

Yeah, I can see your dilemma. Kinda rude, maybe. Was the bag tied well, and since it was obviously garbage day, I would rather have it there than on the yard, or sidewalk.

Well - as long as it was in a bag, AND your garbage hadn't yet been picked up, I'd say it was OK. Not necessarily rude or polite.

If it's garbage day and it hadn't been picked up yet I don't think it's a big deal.

Well, she probably figures you're lucky she didn't just leave it in the yard. :rolleyes1

(To those dog owners who clean up after their pooch, and take the present with them...a big thank you!):worship:

I think it was polite of her, but at the same time she should have said something to you about it since you caught her. However, since you didn't say anything she might have thought she was ok.

Be glad it was a bag of poop she threw away and not criminal stuff!

I think it was rude. I'm not sure where you live, but in my town a dog owner must pick up after their dog. Even if there was no law about it, I wouldn't consider it polite for someone to pick up the feces that their animal left in my yard and put it in my garbage can. That woman should have bagged it and carried it back to her home and disposed of it there.

Garbage cans are public property once they are out on the street for pickup. That is why it is perfectly legal for dumpster divers to go through one's trash. So, while annoying, it is perfectly ok to use the garbage cans on the street waiting for pickup.

I hate it, but what can you do?

That is the reason you should shred everything that goes in the garbage. You never know who is opening the cans.

I'd say it was on the rude side but it beats the alternative of her leaving it on your yard. She probably thought it was on the rude side because she buried it in your trash.

No one in my area carries doggie bags because we back on to a big park. Apparently they feel the park is their dog's toilet.
Anyway, on the way to the park the dogs sniff and occasionally poop. There is one neighbor who let's her dog all over our yard. My DH opens the door and screams at her to get the dog off our property. He said that if she had a bag he wouldn't mind but she carries nothing with her. There is nothing worse then having to clean up someone else's dog poop.:sad2:

That's actually a much more complicated setup than I thought reading at first. I would personally say that it wasn't the best way of cleaning up after her dog, but at least she didn't leave it on the ground to step in. The lesser of two evils let's say. There's a dog that lives in this house and like, it's the roommate's and his girlfriend's and the other day the bathroom was in use, so I went around back to do the deed as I was in a rush and I stepped in some nuggets with my socks on and I was just like, dammit. But at the same time, I probably shouldn't have done that and told the person in the bathroom to just hurry up.

I dunno, better than stepping in it though. Ugh.

I don't think it was rude since the garbage can was outside waiting to be picked up. The woman took the time to pick up the poo and threw it away, knowing it would be gone in a while.

It would have been rude if she would have walked to the side of your house or in your garage to throw it away in your garbage can.

Also, walking around with a bag of dog poo is disgusting and I would rather have someone throw it away in my garbage than have to walk all over carrying it with them.

I find it odd that you called it a "stinky mess". Stinky, I'll give you. However it was in a bag, so not really a mess. I don't know about you but my garbage smells like, well, garbage. A bag of dog poop is not likely to either enhance, or detract from, the already less than pleasant aroma.

If I am walking my dog on garbage day I put the bag in the first can I come to. If not, I either bring it home or put it in a public trash can, whichever comes first.

I wouldn't care, but I throw away cat litter box leavings every night, so dog poop can't be any worse than that. As long as the trash hadn't been picked up already.

I had to read this twice. You mean that you "went" outside instead of using the toilet in the bathroom? egads! hmmmm.....I assume you weren't in view of anyone's home?

By this reasoning I can take my garbage and place it in your can any time the cans are off your property? And can I fill your cans with my garbage after the cans are emptied by the garbage men but before you move them back onto your property?

Why then, would I pay for my own garbage pickup?

That is what I like about my townhouse. We have an alley in the back. The cans never leave my property until they are emptied into the truck.

Better bagged and in the can than loose and on the grass. Trash is trash. One can look at it another way - what if there was misc. litter blowing down the street - and she picked it up and put it in your can? I wish more people would use trash cans - and I don't care if it's my can - especially when it's at the curb.
