Is this right?

I bought the YES tickets (and I am SO thankful to the DIS for this!) but understand that when if I book my room only reservation at POP I cannot add a dining plan nor get free dining if available.

My ? is...if we rent DVC points and they offer free dining can we take advantage that way?? (I think I read this somewhere but maybe I am crazy??)

Free Dining is not available for anyone staying on DVC points. DVCers can, however, get the paid dining plan without purchasing tickets.

Also, to clarify your first statement, you're correct that you cannot add dining (paid or free) to a room only reservation because dining plans can only be part of a package reservation.

It sounds like you know that you would have to buy additional tickets on top of your YES tickets to get the dining plan when staying at Pop. The only ones that qualify for ticketless packages that I know of are DVC members, AP holders and purchasers of military tickets.

You will not be able to get FREE dining on a DVC reservation. However, you could buy a dining plan. DVC reservations do not require any kind of ticket purchase in order to add a dining plan. DVC is the only type of reservation you can add a dining plan without it being any kind of package, as DVC reservations are not packages and are completely separate from CRO and WDT reservations.

You can't book a package with YES tickets, so you couldn't get a dining plan at all if you book at Pop. The previous poster is correct that to get a dining plan you would have to purchase a package with additional tickets, assuming you do not have an annual pass. For free dining, you must buy at least 2 day tickets per person with the package. That would probably negate most of the savings you got by using the YES program.
