Hi Again,

Sorry to keep asking questions, but you guys are the experts and have been extremely helpful and informative. A friend was spposed to make reservations today for us with her points. I gave her 7 different options of rooms just in case..
Anyway, my husband just called me at work. He said he spoke with our friend and she told him that she put in the request and they will get back to her in a day or 2 and she would let me know then f I got the reservation. Is that how it works?? I thought you find out immediately if you have a reservation or not. is there a way you can make reservation requests online and they get back to you? I'm just curious.
I'm going to wait for her to get back to me as I appreciate her doing this. I'm going to pay her for the points I use - it's only fair. And even so, I'm still saving alot of money compared to booking with Disney.
I guess I'm anxious about and having to wait another day or 2 is not what I expected. If anyone has any insight, I'd really appreciate it...Thanks a Bunch! Wendy

If she said that she requested the reservation via the website's email system, then that is most likely correct.

If she said that she called for the reservation, then that is not correct.

If she's waiting, then she must have done it through email....definitely NOT the best way to get what you want.

Thanks Wilderness Dad and Diane,

I didn't know you could make reservations online. I guess that's what she did. My husband didn't speak with her long and he didn't know to ask anyway. It's a tough spot - I would rather her call direct, but she's doing me a favor and I don't want to be a pain. So I guess I'll just have to wait and see and hope one of my choices is available. I know I am paying for the points, but it's a big savings for us and I feel awkward asking her to call. Maybe this is how she makes her reservations. I know she's going in April and I think she said she'd be at Boardwalk which is not her home resort. Oh well, hopefully she'll get a response sooner than later.

Thanks for the info!
Wendy

Are you sure she is a DVC member? Or is she trading from another timeshare?

She's definately a DVC member - has been for quite a few years now. Her home resort is Saratoga Springs. She and her family are going to Disney in April.
From what others said - it sounds like she made the reservations online. I sent her an e-mail with all my information and requests so I guess it was easy to request online. Plus she and her husband own a business and maybe she didn't have time to wait on hold - sometimes I know it can be a long wait.
Either way, I look at it as a nice favor she's doing for us and though I wish she called, I don't feel right asking her to do so. They are her points and I'm happy that she's willing to let me use them. I'll see what happens in a couple of days I guess. I figure once I get a reservation confirmation # from her all is fine. I'm not taking dining and I gave her my flight info for Magical Express (I didn't book the flights yet, but when I called the airlines there was availability).
It does feel odd not having control of my vacation and having to do everything through someone else, but I guess it's worth the savings. She's a responsible person and I'm sure in the long run everything will work out. To be honest, my preference of hotels has to do with location convenience to parks and such. I've stayed at many different Disney resports from top deluxe to moderate and enjoyed them all. So I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever accomodations I get. It's just that I'm so darn anxious to know and then finalize my airline reservations.

I always make my reservations on line and have never not gotten them(and I book a category that goes fast-BW standard view, as well as Hilton Head 1 bedrooms, which also go fast).

Thanks for the input JVL - Makes me feel better! Again, I'm just happy my friend is doing this for me - I just can't wait to find out and get my res. # so I can start plannng my Character meals for my son!

Thanks agai!
Wendy

Could she have used Developer points? Does that take longer to confirm? I used mine for Concierge, not sure about using them for DVC...

I have found it very difficult to call MS - esp. during the day from work. There is usually a very long hold time and I work basically 8-5 but MS closes at 5:30 every day of the week now. I suspect that is why your friend decided to make your ressies online. Not everyone has time to piddle around on hold during the day. The phone hours / lack of lines / on-duty operators would have to be my biggest complaint about DVC. I always used to have to remember to call on Thurs. evenings and now they've stopped those hours so I have to do all of my calls on the weekend or while I am driving home from work. Good luck with your ressie!

Getting MS during the day is very often very easy. You just have certain times that they are overwhelmed because people are trying to get some peak DVC times, e.g., call last part of January early February for Christmas time. Also, they can be stacked very early in the morning after 9 -- many feel they must call first thing in the morning for almost any time of year to assure getting what they want. Also, they are now open 7 days a week 9 to 5:30.

Making an email request should be fine as long as you are not trying to get something that may be very difficult to get, like trying to get Christmas time now or wanting something only a couple months away.

Well I haven't heard anything yet. I guess I'll give it until tomorrow evening before I call my firend. I don't think I'm looking for a peak time (Aug 31 - Sep. 5). Plus I gave 7 choices with 2 of them at OKW -which from what I'm hearing should be easy to get since it's one of the larger resorts.
I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks Wendy

The only problem is that your dates are over the Labor Day holiday weekend. I'm concerned about asking for 2 studio rooms at some of those resorts instead of a 2 bedroom. You do realize that the studio rooms at OKW will not be near each other, right? Studios will either be on oposite ends of the same building, above or below on different floors of the same building, or even in different buildings.

Uh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that Labor Day weekend? It's a semi-peak time in my opinion. :goodvibes

Hi Everyone,
I posted a seperate thread, but the bottom line is I got my first choice! My friend called this afternoon to tell me I have a reservation for a 2-bedroom standard view at BWV. I am very happy to hear this. I wasn't sure I would get it. I've been to Disney twice before labor day week and found it not to be crowded. That's one of the reasons I chose this time. I know DVC peaks times can vary from the rest of the hotels, but I figure most people are getting ready to start school or go back to work and such over labor day weekend and may not be traveling. Either way, I'm very happy and can hardly wait!

Question for anyone who knows. I was reading online about renting pontoon boats to watch Illuminations and fishing and teh kids playground, etc. at BWV. Are those activies for DVC members only? As a guest at BWV (not a member) will I be able to particpate in those activities if I want? Even though I'm staying at BWV is there anything I won't have access to, etc., because I'm not a member? Just curious....I would love to try the fireworks boat ride.

Thanks!

The boats have nothing to do with DVC members or even Boardwalk itself, anyone can reserve them. I'm not sure about the playground but if there is one it would be available to all BWV guests.

Illuminations and Wishes Cruises (also fishing trips) are reserved through Disney Play. They are very limited in number and go quickly. 1-407-WDW-PLAY. During normal daytime hours, you just head over to the marina and rent a boat.
