Our first night at WDW. MK closes at 8. Plan on seeing Wishes, then dashing out of the park and over to Chef Mickey's for an 8:50 ADR. We don't mind the late time, as it's our first night there and we will be in no hurry to just return to the resort.
But... if electric water pageant is at 10:05 at CR - will we be able to eat and make it to see it in time? and where do we go to see it from there? Do you think we'll be finished dinner in time? Should I maybe see if can get an ADR a touch earlier?
Also... still not sure how we'll get back to ASMovies since transportation won't be running from MK anymore.

For transportation, either take a taxi (quickest method) or take a DTD bus from CR and switch to an ASM bus at DTD.

I haven't been to CR since they tore out the Steakhouse and Outer Rim, so I don't know how much window space is left for watching the water pageant. I used to just watch it from up there, instead of trying to get downstairs and outside to see it. If you are going to watch it outside, you really need to be on the dock or the beach, and it would take a few minutes to get there. I would just try to get to a window along the back of the 4th floor.

The big issue will be how long you have to wait to get into Chef Mickey's for your ADR. If you get right in, you may be finished in time for the water pageant. But you may have to wait a few minutes to be seated. If there is one person who doesn't mind "holding down the fort" while the rest of you go to view, it's only a few steps from the restaurant to the windows, and then you could come back in and finish your meal. The water pageant doesn't take more than about 10 minutes or so.

If you are going to have another night to watch Wishes from inside the park, you could go to the Contemporary early and watch Wishes from the fourth floor observation deck and check in early at Chef Mickey's so you're more likely to be done in time for the water parade. They pipe in the music, so you pretty much get the full effect.

You can see the water parade from the windows of the fourth floor concourse, but I'd recommend walking outside. Back by the pool there is plenty of room, or even out on the dock where the boats launch. I've never looked back, but you may be able to see it from the observation deck, and at one time I think you could go outside from the second or third floor onto a balcony that looked out toward the parade. Sorry that's not more helpful - I haven't tried it in the last ten years!

You should be fine! Have fun!

You'll be fine watching Wishes from MK and then going to Chef Mickey's. You have plenty of time. Don't be too concerned with the water pagaent, you can catch it any night from anywhere. If you miss it, you aren't missing much, catch it on YouTube or something. Watching Wishes from the Contemporary isn't nearly as nice as watching it from Main Street - it was designed to be viewed from there and it's a great experience to see it from there. Have fun!

I agree. I have watched Wishes from a couple of vantage points and by far, in front of the Castle on Main Street is the place to be. They have designed the fireworks to be in line with the Castle as the center point. It is a must see during any trip.

If you are able to see the Electrical Water Pageant there are tables by the Tempo Grab & Go when it goes by Bay Lake.

OMG, I couldn't disagree more! The water pageant is one of my favorite things to see at WDW. Just my two cents, but hey, that's what we're here for. ;) I have wonderful childhood memories of it and those memories have never been dampened by adulthood experiences. I love to watch each and every time I can!

I do agree with a pp that if you have another chance to see Wishes from inside the park, heading to the CR first is the best bet. With the mass exodus from the park after Wishes, I'd feel rushed to get to CR and sit down for 8:50 AD Rs. :upsidedow

Our 6yo was completely taken by the EWP from our view at Narcoossee's, even more than he was into Wishes (fireworks not his favorite thing). So especially if you have a little one in the group, take the time some night for the water parade, for them it is magical. I wouldn't have guessed that, so it was really cool to see WDW through his eyes.

I think exiting MK and walking to CR is your best bet and quickest route to CM's.

Also be sure there isn't a party at MK that night. If there is transportation will still run from the park.

How do you find out what time and what nights they do the EWP and where it goes? We will be in WDW Dec 14-21 and then again Jan 4-14. I would love to be able to plan this into our visits.

if you go to CR after wishes DO NOT GET ON THE MONORAIL!

Everyone heads to the monorail. Instead, head for the buses, but head to the left and there is a walking path to the contemporary. I don't think I would rush dinner to try to get to the EWP. While cute, and cool to see, I wouldn't rush dinner. If it works out, consider it a bonus.

After dinner, splurge and grab a taxi from the CR. Will save you at least an hour if not more!

Walk to the CR after MK. It's the most efficient means of getting there at that time. It's a very short walk (no more than 5-7 minutes).

EWP can be seen from several of the resorts around that area, as well as the bus queue for MK. You may be able to see a bit of it as you leave.

Don't waste money on a cab. The bus ride to DTD with the switch to your resort's bus is a nice way to end an evening. Why waste money on transport when you can get there for free. At that time of night there won't be huge amounts of people trying to get to DTD, so you won't be on line long.

thanks for the opinions and ideas! Well, figuring to catch Wishes more towards the middle/back of main street - it's our first night there and it's a must - my 5 year old keeps singing the Wishes song all the time, and we're all excited to see it again! We'll probably start making our way out of the park towards the end of Wishes and make a dash out of there. Kids are real good at keeping up with me! Looks like walking to CR is the way to go then, huh?

As for the EWP - me and the kids have never seen it. I showed my one dd a few seconds of it from youtube and she was all excited. Thinking to finish up at CM and head down to the pool or dock area they have? Have never been to CR or CM, so guess I'll have to find my way somehow! We only have one other evening that we'll have a chance to catch the EWP, but we really want to see it, so want to get it over with our first night!

We've never been to CM - and would much rather prefer a better time for dinner on another night, but haven't been able to get a reservation. I'm thinking maybe the way I have it... we'll arrive that day, get to MK around 4:30, eat at the Plaza -our first food since breakfast - get in as much MK as we can - but then w/ park closing at 8, I'm thinking we'll all be too excited to just go back to the room, so perhaps is a good night to head off to CM. Just worried how long it will take to get back to the resort via DTD, as we have an early 8:10 ADR the next morning.

So looks like I can make this work, huh? I just fear it will make it a stressful first night - and will still keep trying to see if can get a CM ADR for one of our other nights - but no luck so far.
