So I have been to Beaches and Cream once on a previous trip, but went to the take-out window and didn't even hear about the infamous Kitchen Sink until we got back. This trip, it will just be DH and I and we would really like to try it!! A few quick questions -

1. For the 8 scoops, can you pick the combination of flavors?

2. Can you exclude certain toppings (don't know if they put nuts in but DH doesn't like them)

3. Most importantly, will it be a huge waste of money for two people? We try to get icecream at least once in WDW (usually at the Plaza on Main Street), but after seeing this we decided we had to try it!! We will probably do a late lunch/early dinner (3:30/4:00) and then head over there a few hours later. Will our love of icecream be enough to polish this baby off, or should we skip lunch/dinner entirely? :goodvibes

I have never tried it (hopefully will in a couple of weeks), but from various threads on the Dis it seems to me that you can not choose flavours or substitute one for the other. Most people have said that you get a little bit of EVERYTHING but I can´t imagine why they shouldn´t be able to exclude nuts.

I don't know about choosing specific flavors but I do know you can request that certain things be left off. :thumbsup2 We asked for this when we got our kitchen sink in August.

As far as being able to finish it...I wouldn't count on it with 2 people. I had three ice-cream lovin' kids and myself and we maybe finished half. One problem is that it is so big it starts to melt and get "icky". After a while it just tastes like one big sweet liquidy mess.

I'd still do it for the experience, though! Have fun!

I guess going with two people is sort of a double-edged sword. On one hand, with lots of people eating it, it would be less likely to get to the gross melty stage, but I would be so grossed out if it started to melt and get all gross if there were like 6 of us eating it, I am typically not a food/drink sharer...especially not things that melt.

On the other hand, I don't mind sharing food/drink with my DH, but because there are only 2 people eating the icecream, it is more likely that a larger percentage of the icecream will end up melty and gross because it takes longer to eat with 2 people.

I would say this sounds like a lose-lose situation for me, but it involves icecream and an entire can of whipped cream...so how can I be upset?? :goodvibes

As a party of 6, we couldn't finish it! The son and father behind us each finished one!! I'm sure you can exclude toppings, but I don't know about requesting certain flavors. We just took it in all it's glory. For 6 people, it probably saved us some money as opposed to each getting our own (even though some of us got something else on the side!!) but for two people it might be a bit of a waste. However, it is truly a once in a lifetime experience, so I think it's worth the waste! We're doing it again on this trip!!

Here's some pictures of us tackling the beast that is the Kitchen Sink:

I look quite attractive here, don't I!!

It was a valiant fight, but alas, we did not succeed.

Geez, they finished one EACH? If we my DH and I haven't eaten for 4 hours or so, I can't imagine that 8 scoops would be that hard to finish (although I don't know how big the scoops are). It's the toppings and whipped cream that worry me.

PS: Shouldn't your avatar read "World *EFFING* Champions"??? :thumbsup2 GO PHILS!

Yes, our mouths dropped! Their mom/wife was like "oh this is completely normal!" but she only had a small cone I believe! We were totally shocked, and I think some of us were pretty nauseous! After that we didn't eat ice cream the rest of the trip! Except a Mickey bar!! I think they were more like half of a half gallon ice cream container instead of scoops! By the end we were standing up to dig thru the sloppy mess to get our flavor. I love my friends (and boyfriend) dearly, but I can't imagine the insane amount of germs we shared that evening. What is it about extremely large food that makes us throw out common sense hahahaha!

Ah yes, it should but I, unlike beloved and gorgeous Mr. Utley, realize this is a place for families!! (Plus I don't want to get banned from the DIS!) I was totally shocked when he said that. It got me out of the trance that his gorgeousity put me in (yes I know that's not a real word)!! How wonderful was this season!!!! Only 3.5 months til Spring Training!!

BarbieGal457 - Thanks for sharing your pics - that dessert looks awesome! (insert Homer Simpson "drooling for donuts" smilie here) Hahaha

Well done on such a brave attempt at polishing off this enormous ice cream concoction!!! :hippie: Hopefully, I'll get to try one in April with a little help from my DH and DD7. :yay:

BarbieGal - any idea what the toppings were on the Kitchen Sink? I was imaging sprinkles, cherries, maybe cookie crumbles but from your pix, it looks like whole brownies, pieces of cake??? and oreos. This is going to be tougher than I thought

Whole candy bars too. Plus fruit....banana, pineapple, cherries. An entire CAN of whipped cream. Bon apetit!

Yes, you can request the flavors of ice cream from what is available. We got one in July with 6 of us - and finished it of course :thumbsup2 - and replaced the coffee with chocolate. Otherwise it is just normally a scoop of each flavor. We didn't make any special requests about the toppings but I'm sure we could.

But WOW father and son each eating one. I will say that we had a burger before ours but with 6 people we had plenty.

We split the kitchen sink between my DH, my 2 teenage sons and myself. We finished it. But for you two, no way. BUT! Do try splitting one of their huge sundaes. We always split the No Way Jose every trip, between me and one of my sons and that is very do-able between two people. I could never finish one of them by myself.
But honestly, you'll be wasting your money to attempt the kitchen sink, its just too big.

My youngest son is an ice cream lover and eats like a horse. He wanted to try the Kitchen Sink a few years ago, so we took him and my D-I-L there for lunch. Yes, we had the Kitchen Sink for our lunch that day. My husband, D-I-L and I got sick of it very quickly, but my son was determined to finish the thing. He did so, while the rest of us sat and watched. I felt naueated the rest of the day. By the way, there were four of us (all adults and all big eaters normally, plus as I said it was our lunch so we were starving when we went in). Oh yes, we requested no coffee ice cream and it was not a problem. They substituted vanilla and strawberry for the coffee.

That's alot of icecream for 2 people, don't forget topack the immodium AD. :lmao::lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: sorry that comment just hit me

It's a good warning. I get sick sometimes if I try to eat a whole pint, so a whole Kitchen Sink full, we may have to make it a stay in the hotel room kind of night. No JellyRolls for us!!! :rotfl:

Ah, this brings back memories. During my CP in 2007, me and my friend had a bet of who could eat more of a Kitchen Sink. So we each got our own. Let's just say that he creamed me. He ate 2/3 of his, and I couldn't even finish half of mine. I was amazed that I could still even walk afterwards.

Yes, you can request specific types of ice cream be left off, we asked that of the coffee flavored, and they let us choose which flavor we wanted to replace it...and yes, we asked that the caramel and nuts be left off.

And I agree with most of the others.....the ice cream melts pretty fast and it does become a gloppy mess and mixture of all the flavors together. While this does have it's yumminess......it's not nearly as wonderful tasting after a couple minutes, lol.

And...the price. It's $22 for the kitchen sink with 8 scoops of ice cream. Most of but of the rest of the sundaes contain 3 scoops of ice cream with various toppings and are $8. So for $16 you could each have your own with 6 large scoops of ice cream.....which except for the very large appetites will likely be more than adequate! If you break down the "per scoop" price it's a few pennies less per scoop ($2.66) for the individual sundaes vs the sink ($2.75) so that's not really a difference.....but if there are only 2 of you, the waste of not finishing it could be a few dollars.

Now...if there were 3 or 4 or more of you......or you had huge ice cream appetites and would want larger than the regular sundaes....or if it was all about the novelty and attention brought upon your table for eating the Kitchen Sink....then go for it. But if you're looking for delicious ice cream sundae without the muss, fuss and less expense, then get separate ones.

As a typically non-peanut butter lover, I can still highly recommend the No Way Jose...this one wasn't even on my radar, but after exchanging a bit with my daughter, I traded her my fuller ice cream for that heavenly delight, lol.
