Can I fly into CA in one airport and leave from another because mike and I are spending the first week or 2 with my dad and the 2ed week doing DL and other attractions

Yes, of course. You may either book one open-jaw itinerary under one ticket or book two one way tickets under two separate tickets. I recommend the former.

I once did it in CA on a 2 stop business trip. Flew US into SAN, drove to Orange, flew out of SNA.
