Is This Nuts???

I had booked OKW (2 bedroom villa) and was very happy and then the kids got involved and decided that they really wanted to stay at the Poly. Since I had a 40% off code I decided to check if it was available...

Well, I booked 2 rooms at the Poly and it is about $700 more. Is it nuts to give up the villa for 2 rooms at the Poly???

It depends...I enjoy staying at the villas. However, my dh and ds dislikes the villas because they rather have daily housekeeping (my 9 year old is a bit outspoken) and room service.

I didn't grow up needing room service, turn down service, etc. I only need to be happy with where I'm at (btw, I love Pop Century/All Star Music and Movies, too and they don't like anything in the value range).

Although, I love  the Polynesian, it really depends on how the entire family feels about the vacation. Would your kids be okay with visiting the Polynesian on the next trip? Is it more important to you to save money this time around? What type of overall feel did you want for this trip? Is there something you could trade off with them (I negotiated with my dh and ds, to give up their first class tickets or give up Poly-Concierge)?

Find ways, perhaps, to make up for the extra money, if it's possible.

Yep, that's nuts. By the way, if you book through Disney and not on DVC points, you get daily housekeeping. And all the hotel style DVC resorts have access to room service.

But as a DVC member, I love not having to worry about coming back to the room after a busy morning and finding the housekeepers just starting to clean my room. I can take my DVC afternoon nap every day without worrying.

Definately stick with OKW.

The 2br is over 1200 sq.ft. Almost the size of 3 rooms at the Poly.

And then there is the huge jacuzzi tub, and the full size washer and dryer, the full kitchen. The way the buildings are designed the balconies are staggered, so they are very private.

You loose the convenience of the Poly, but the amenities of the room make up for it IMHO

Nothing is nuts if it is what you and your family want to do. Each resort has a lot going for it, but being near the MK is very special.

Only you can decide how much you want to spend.

But the OKW two bedroom is more like a condo than a hotel room, if that interests you at all. Heck, it's bigger than the condo I live in.

I really love the Poly. But it this depends on your family's needs. Do you want to have a kitchen? Would you rather be in one large villa? Or two hotel rooms?

Also consider transportation. If you're not going to have a car and plan on spending a lot of time at the MK, the Poly might be worth it. Also the Poly is near the TTC so you can hop on the Epcot monorail as well.

OK. now I feel bad.:lmao: The kids are 15, 14, 12, 8 and 7. They want to be at a monorail resort so they can zip back and forth to Epcot and MK. We will go to Epcot every day. It seems as if it will be quicker to get to Epcot from the Poly than from OKW??? Is that correct?

They also like the fact that there are 2 daybeds so they won't have to share a bed.

The $$ isn't really an issue. We will never cook so that doesn't matter either.

I guess it's a matter of room size verses location.

The Poly is sooooo convenient because you can walk to the TTC to hop on the Epcot monorail as well as take the resort monorail to MK. If you don't plan to cook or do laundry, I'd stick with the Poly. We have really enjoyed our stays there. We loved staying at OKW, too, but it sounds like you won't need the amenities it provides.

Do NOT let other people make you feel bad about your choices!!!

You're doing what's right for your family, not someone else's. Go with your gut and have a wonderful time!

(But never ask "Is this nuts?" The only choices are "yes" or "no" and one is bound to make you feel badly!)

We're going to the Poly in August and can't wait!! The convenience of the monorail, added to the whole ambience of the Poly is going to make this a wonderful vacation!!

Stay where you and your family want to stay and don't second guess yourselves. If you do then you'll spend every moment of your vacation that something minor occurs thinking I wonder if we would have been better off staying (at the other place.) Just do what is best for you and your family.

Deffinately don't think your nuts. My kids are the same way and we always stay Poly for the convience factor. Your kids will be very happy having the monorail right at their fingertips. Only you can decide whats best for your situation....and IMO it sounds like you made a good choice for what you wanted and needed. HOpe you have a wonderful time! :)

Hey we love OKW but it isn't my vacation. If they really want to stay on a monorail resort go for it. The worst thing you want to have happen is to stay one place, wishing you were some place else.

I don't blame you for considering it. We love our DVC resorts, but in my personal opinion, the 2 bedroom only offers you 3 beds. One King and 2 queens. I don't consider sleeping on the sofa bed, a real bed.

The 2 rooms at the Polynesian will offer you 6 beds, 4 queens and 2 twins. There is alot to be said for having your own bed. :thumbsup2

The Polynesian offers you better and more transportation options to MK and Epcot and having a quick food area within walking distance is great for kids the ages of yours.

If you have the extra money to pay, go ahead and do it. I would not, who knows you may get stuck in the back building at the Poly with the best view of the monarail tracks. We did staying with the AP discount.

Or you could get a suprise upgrade and get the best room in the resort.

From my experiences I find location to be a huge factor for us. We've never stayed at a monorail resort but we've stayed at the EPCOT resorts 4 times and just love that area because of the convenience. If money is not a factor I'd say go with Poly..
