We have a 14 week old female Samoyed puppy "Cookie". We also have her 2 year old 1/2 sister "Peppermint".

Recently during play, Cookie has taken to biting Peppers coat and pulling out her hair. She can't get enough of biting Peppermint. I know that she is only latching onto hair because in no way does Pepper ever seem to be in pain. It's the oddest thing to watch.

I have had puppies before but it was always just 1 dog and never 2 so I don't know how normal this behavior is. If it is normal should I be jumping in to get Cookie to stop?

Suzy, one of our poodles, was a "drive by nipper". She would run up behind the adult dogs when she was a puppy and bite them on the back leg and run away before they could turn around and get her. Those poor dogs went through months of doggie hell before she outgrew it :rotfl:

Hailey, our 2 yr old poodle was obsessed with Lacy, a poodle we had when she was a puppy that was 14 yrs old and Blind. She would try to sneak up on her and nip her too but Lacy had some kind of Jedi mind thing going on and could tell exactly where Hailey was coming from and would turn and get her everytime. Hailey would go rolling off in a little ball of fur from the bark Lacy would throw at her.

So yeah, we've had several puppies that nip their playmates. I think it's pretty normal :) The other dog will let them know if it gets to be too much.

It is normal. If your older dog takes offense, she will let Cookie know. You kind of have to let them work it out. You have a very patient doggie though. My 2 doxies go at it like they are going to kill each other, but it is all play.

I like your choice of names but I think we need some pictures. :goodvibes

Yes, puppies do this. Peppermint will let her know if she's had enough or if it hurts her. paw:

Good think about Sammies is at least there is plenty of fur to have to get through before she could actually hurt her sister!

And I agree.. lets see some pictures!

They are beautiful!!!

Yes, this is very normal dog behavior. If Peppermint gets tired of it, believe me, she'll put Cookie in her place ;)
