Is this name male or female? MYSTERY SOLVED POST 22

My husband chose some tags off the Giving Tree at work. One has me stumped, even the gift request is gender nuetral. The name is "Semyon". Anyone have an idea if this is a male or female?

Most giving trees that I have seen do indicate gender--vary rarely a name.

It sounds kind of "Simon"-ish to me. So my guess would be male as well.

Simeon is traditionally a male name but with the unique spelling I'm just not sure.

I would guess male, but who knows! Seriously, they should indicate gender on those things. Are you supposed to get certain items like clothing? If not, you could just get something gender-neutral, like a game.

It's actually for a senior citizen. DH chose an infant, a school aged child, a 30 year old woman, and a senior. Of course it will up to me to shop for the gifts.

The person asked for frying pans and clothing size medium. :sigh: The frying pans are easy, but the clothing...

I would also say it's a male name, especially since it's an older person. Just because (and I'm not sure how to put this so it makes sense) it seems like people didn't use traditional male names for girls until the last several years, at least around here anyway.

Thanks Beth! Sounds like it's a male. I"ll get a gift receipt so it can be exchanged, just in case. There's a good size Russian population in NJ, so you probably nailed it.
