I have a Feb UY. I have 100 pts but need 140. I want to make a JAn 09 resv. I transfer (by buying) abother member's 40 pts to my acct since I have not made a transfer before. I make the JAn 09 resv. Come Feb 1 2009 when my UY starts again, I am then eligible for a new transfer within the next 12 mos. Am I right?????

Yes, the one-transfer-per-year policy refers to Use Year.

If you see that you will need to transfer into your account each year, you might want to consider buying more points - it may be less costly in the long run.

As Doc noted, the transfer is based on UY, but you do not need to wait for your UY to start to receive a transfer. I was in my 07UY when I received a transfer of 08UY points. However, since transferred points cannot be borrowed to use in an earlier UY, I cannot use them except for an 08UY reservation or, if I bank them, an 09UY reservation.

You also have the option of borrowing your own 09UY points to make your Jan 09 reservation, but you may have already considered that.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

I've never rented or transferred before but I was wondering if a transfer would be considered a "safer" transaction since once the deal is done the owner of the points couldn't cause any potential problems.

Definitely!

Not to hijack the thread...but, I have a question along these lines as well. If I transfer points to another member, what's the best solution to exchange funds? Before or After the transaction? Just curious since a transfer is a FINAL transaction and CAN NOT be reversed.

I have done a point transfer (in) twice, and both times paid 50%, points were transferred, then I paid the other 50% (via Paypal...that's another issue). It depends on the owners and how much risk each side is willing to bear.
And actually MS did reverse a transfer for us once when there was a misunderstanding on UY.

Okay, I would never do a transfer if I didnt get all the money first.Because once you transfer the points they are gone forever. I just would not do it any other way.

Okay, good. That's kinda what I was thinking, but didn't want to seem pushy if not. thanks!

Yes, Thats the only way I would even feel comfortable. But diffrent people do it diffrent ways but thats my way and I am sticking to it:laughing: .I have actually had them transferred to me and paid all up front and I have also transferred with all the money to me up front.

Ah, but technically, according to the Public Offering Statement, there is to be NO compensation for a transfer of points.

That's fine and it's up to the owner to set her or his rules, and the other person to decide whether that works or not, and if not, to shop elsewhere. One time I transferred in from a new DVC member with a low post count and I for sure was not going to give her $1k up front...it all depends on the situation
