Is this going to be a problem?

I have been patiently waiting for my new BWV points to be added to my account. I am 10 days past deed recording, but I was looking at my recorded deed and I just realized that our names are listed and spelled correctly, but rather than saying Wife and Husband, it says Husband and Wife. Is this going to be a huge problem? Of course I realized it at 4:58 on Good Friday. Now I'm worried that this is going to mess up our points showing up in our same account and member number.

Hmmm, It may be. I understood they needed to be in the identical names. You'll just need to get hold of Member Services to know for sure.

Our names are listed in the correct order and with the correct spelling. To use fake names for an example, it should read Sue W. Disney and Fred R. Disney, Wife and Husband. It actually reads Sue W. Disney and Fred R. Disney, Husband and Wife. The names are correct and in the correct order, it's the tenancy that's backwards.

Contact DVC Administration and see what they say.

Thanks. Unfortunately they were already closed when I realized the potential problem. I spoke with Member Services just to see if they saw an additional account in the process of being created. She only saw our current account. The resale agent said it shouldn't be a problem, but they are waiting for the closing agent to confirm this to be 100% sure. Of course, the closing agent was already closed as well. It's gonna be a long weekend!

Bill's suggestion of checking with Member Admin is sound.

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think the order of the spousal terms has anything to do with tenancy. I believe Husband and Wife/Wife and Husband mean the same thing. The legal terminology following (e.g. "jointly and severally, with right of survivorship" or similar) describes "tenancy" as far as I know.

But Member Administration should be able to help you with that. The closing agent (NOT the broker or salesman) should also be able to explain why the titles were switched and whether it matters.

It was correct on every document, except the actual deed that would be recorded. It's my fault for not noticing.

We could argue whose fault it is, but the truth is: it doesn't matter whose fault it is.

What matters is whether it has any real-world importance. If it does, it needs to be fixed -- and I don't think you'll have any problem (or cost) in fixing any issues.

Once again, what Bill said above: call Member Admin.

Update: The order of the tenancy designation doesn't matter. According to the closing agent, she spoke to her contact at Disney and was told even the order of the names doesn't matter, just the spelling must match, down to the use of initials. Our contract was loaded into the account this morning. We are still waiting for the points to load, but the new contract is there.

That's good news...but. In an abundance of caution, I would still call DVC Member Admin and verify that with them. They are the people who really know.
