I'm reading this book, I'm really enjoying it. There is a statement in the book that no matter where you are in Florida, you are no more than 60 miles from a coastline. True? I tried googling and couldn't find this fact.

I don't know for sure, but that sounds about right. I would think the number is pretty close to that.

and that would be why hurricane insurance is expensive ;) 1/2 my family lives in Fl ( the lucky half, only been hit once out f all of them over 30 years) so they have had to endure the increases, but yeah, I would say that statement is true enough...the stae is not that wide, really.

sounds about right to me. I've heard it for a long time as well.

the only place i could see it not being true is north of ocala, some where in that area. But it's still pretty close.

I looked a a few maps, and I could see it being true in the southern half of the state, but I'm wondering about the northern half.

Definitely not true. Part of the peninsula is 150 miles wide and also there are parts of the NE portion of the state easily more than 60 miles from the coast.

It is true as if you are in the pan handle part of Florida, there is the Gulf of Mexico to head to!

that is what I was thinking...that is a long stretch of FL but it is parallel to the Gulf. I know without a doubt, I could never live anywhere that was not by the ocean.... :)

Any way you measure it, it's still an easy day trip to either coast.
