Is this even remotely feasible?

I’m flying to Costa Rica in January and one of the flight options is to go via Lax. It would be an absolute overnight flight that leaves at 11:00pm. I can get a flight into LAX that lands at 11:00am and I was thinking of spending the day at Disney (specifically California Adventure Park). If I had 6-7 hours in the park I would think it was worth it. Assuming my flight times don’t change and my inbound flight is on time is it doable and if so what’s my best option for transportation (I don’t drive so renting a car is not an option)? Am I even crazy to be thinking of trying it?

I fly international to Ireland from LAX. My flight is usually at 8pm. On my travel day I dont go into the park, I just stay in Downtown Disney.

From my experience of international travel from LAX and to and from Disneyland.

Your flight lands at 11am
By the time you exit the plane, exit the terminal, get transport and travel to Anaheim you will be at the security bag check at Harbour Boulevard at 1pm

Your flight leaves at 11pm
Assuming you are already checked in and will have a boarding pass you would need to be walking into the terminal building at 9pm.
You would need to be getting into transport in Anaheim at 7pm

That gives you approx 6 hours park time 1pm to 6pm.

Do able, yes, stressful yes. expensive yes

You want to go all the way to Anaheim for 5-6 hours? I'd say no don't bother.
You could go to Universal Studios in Hollywood for a lot less money, it is a lot closer to LAX.

5-6 hours in the park is better then no hours if you don't mind spending a small fortune to make it happen.

Oh I never thought of universal. I wanted to do California Adventureland because I’ve never been there (usually go to Disney World) but I’ve also never been to Universal. Thanks!

That’s the part I’m trying to figure out - my love of Disney says its worth it, my accountant brain that has many other trips on the bucket list says it’s not!

I think maybe I just needed someone else to write it out like you did to make me realize I would just be stressing out the whole time and probably wouldn’t enjoy myself. Maybe I’ll look into flying in the day before and spending a night which would actually give me two park days.

Universal or Warner Bros are closer and very well done!
I’ve always avoided universal because I’ve read it isn’t really plus size friendly but I’ve just recently lost 100lbs so maybe universal is a good option now.

We were on Splash Mountain when the ride STOPPED. It took a very long time to evacuate the ride, especially since we were the next log to drop down the chute. On Rise it took the crew over an hour to get me out when it went down. Not all rides are a fast exit for a break down.

Now on our last day I stress a little about getting stuck on a ride and missing our flight home.
The last few hours before we leave for the airport I'm selective on what I will ride just for this reason.

Your plan to fly in the day before is a good one!!

This is a GREAT idea!! Much less stressful, and you can leave a nice cushion to get to LAX for your flight to Costa Rica without feeling like you have shorted the park time (since you will have an entire extra day).

It would be very pricey as only uber black, lyft lux black, limos, town cars and private vehicles are allowed to pick up and drop off at the terminals. Regular uber, lyft and taxis you need to shuttle to a lot. Check out Laxit for rules at LAX

That would be FAR less stressful. Or as someone mentioned, do something closer to the Airport. La Brea Tar Pits is another easy option. I'm sure if you ask for LAX ideas, some locals can point you to fun day trips. Just be cautious to pad your airport return time since traffic accidents can change travel time unexpectedly.

If I wasn't doing Disney I wouldn't bother with a layover in LAX (I'd just book a later flight so I don't have a long wait before the overnight flight) - I'm only doing it because I've never been to California Adventure Park and it seemed like a good opportunity to go. I think I've decided on flying in the day before and staying one night at Pixar Place and doing the two partial days at Disney. It will still be pricey but I figure it's worth it since I'm already there. I'm also starting to fall in love with the idea of doing Disney on my own (been to Disneyland 2x and Disney World 4x bet never solo).

Awesome plan! Doing Disney with family is wonderful memories and fun, doing it by yourself is a different kind of magical - very refreshing and lets you see the park thru new eyes! Try to rope drop if you can, being roughly near the front ropes to hear the welcome announcement and see all those happy (rested) faces - especially with a cup of coffee in hand and a simple plan to hit a couple rides - is a Perfect morning experience :) Enjoy!

I've only been there at rope drop once before but without the family I could definitely do that the second day. I'm liking the plan more and more!
