Is this doable?!

Hi all!

Following on from our huge trip last year, we are contemplating another this year :) however, here are the main problems...

1) We only have a week - flights would be direct but is it worth it?
2) It's pretty last minute - we would be going the last week in July! Is it too busy? Would we be able to get decent ADRs?
3) Worst of all... We have this week to ourselves as the grandparents are taking our children on holiday. Are we horrible parents for even considering going alone?

On that note its probably the only chance we will get to do it alone. Our last trip for the seven of us cost £10,000 and there is no way we can afford to do that again. For two though, the price is reasonable....

Help?! What would you do?

If you can afford it, do it. The children are getting a holiday anyway! Sounds fun. ADRs may be a challenge though. You can check on line what's available.

We are looking at doing a week in August, just wife and I as we will be taking the boys next may! And hopefully in November too,
We enjoy the flight as part of the holiday so I don't think I'm losing a day :)

We quite frequently do shorter trips and love it :goodvibes

With regard to ADRs it all depends what you are looking for - you won't get BoG but there are plenty of very nice restaurants that you will be able to get. Even after Easter I was able to make same day ADRs for Turf Club and Yachtsman.

There are also lots of offsite restaurants that are just as good and much better value :thumbsup2

I am doing a week next March with my DD. DH doesn't like doing shorter trips but more because he doesn't think it's worth the jet lag :rotfl:

As to whether you will be able to get any decent ADRs, why not have a look - they would be available to book now and there is nothing lost if you decide not to go, just cancel them :)

yes

very busy. It's one of the busiest time of year

don't expect to get the more popular restaurants at decent times. But you might get lucky with a walk up, or check 24 hours before, as cancellations might allow you to book.
If you're onsite, check with the hotel's front desk
But don't make plans on getting BOG, CM, CRT, or restaurants like thsese. You may get them, but that will be sheer luck.
Less popular restaurants will prove easier to book, but book ASAP

No
But one thing will be tricky. That thing is not to overwhelm your kids with your planning or your "trip report". They will love to share your experience, but they might be gutted if you give them the imprerssion that it was "so much better without them" (It so easy to let that kind of feeling seep in, even when it's not intentional)

Thanks everyone!

Ive just done a dining check for our dates... Amazingly, all of our favourite restaurants are available and at the times we want. I was shocked :)

Re planning and the kids - we wouldn't even tell them we were going to Florida. We're planning on just saying we're off to Spain or Portugal or somewhere like that so they don't get jealous - I couldn't be honest about it! I would feel awful!

Trying to find flights now... They're around £1,200 each for direct. 1,100 with Virgin if we use air miles... Ugh!
