Is this cutting the line or what!?

Didn't I read in an 'official' WDW guide book a suggestion for a family to try the following when lining up to ride Dumbo or any so called cycle ride?

Parent with child line up to ride....other parent takes a place in line about 30 or 40 people behind. Child rides with first parent, then is handed off to second parent and rides again with very little wait between rides.

Not quite like the child swap...more like the parent swap.

why not? As long as its one child and not 30 I think its a great idea. Since there are 2 seats per car it doesn't change the wait for the people in back of you to have your child go with both parents.

I don't know....it doesn't necessarily seem like "cutting" because both parents are already in line. I had an issue like this at Splish Splash, my son and two friends came to meet me in line for one of those family raft ride things. and this lady behind me starting yelling that they were cutting. I explained to her that they were riding with me, and being that you can fit 5 in a boat it wouldn't make a difference to her time in line. She subsequently apologized for getting upset, she didn't know they were riding with me, just thought they were cutting. If I see there's a couple of kids who want to ride with their friends or parents in front of me, I always let them through. To me it's not a big deal if I even have to wait a couple of extra minutes to let a kid ride with his/her friends/parents. But I don't like when people cut just to try to pull one over.

It's only cutting if it makes others wait longer. But the child doesn't take up an extra elephant, the child will ride with the adult so it doesn't make the wait longer for anyone else.

I don't view it as cutting in line. Both parents are already in line...and the child is going to share a seat with each one. If the child wasn't there, the parent would have the seat to themselves, so you might as well add their child to it. It doesn't change how long you have to wait for the chance to ride.

I DO view it as cutting in line. AND it is one more way we teach our children how to bend (notice I said bend and not break) the rules to get what they want.

Dad and the kid would need to wait at the exit for Mom to arrive.
I can't see the CM's ALLOWING Dad (on his own) to just hand-over the kid to Mom (and that would mean letting the kid load on the unload side).

AND Mom would be telling the load CM "how many" adding in a "phantom rider" (the KID that would be joining from the unload side).

Nope. Once you examine the logistics of this, it doesnn't compute.
Maybe a few times this might work.
But if it starts getting "common" I doubt they'd let it continue.

I'm confused...how is this "bending" the rules when both parents have followed the rules by waiting in line?

By the very fact that the KID did NOT.

And that this is not an approved method of loading guests.

Depending on the ride, what you're saying isn't necessarily true. Some rides can only hold x amount of people...so once the one parent gets off with the child, chances can be that the other parent is still waiting in line (depending on how far back they are of course) and the parent can simply hand the child over to the other parent. This, of course, would only work for a ride where yuo can easily work your way over to where the other parent is waiting (and not trying to squeeze your way through).

The child swap that Disney DOES approve of also has someone waiting a considerably shorter time than people not involved with it...and yet no one complains about line cutting with that.

Actually, when you swap, you can take 2 guests on the ride with you. My older two kids love it when DH and I swap (we travel with toddler) 'cause they get to go on the ride twice!

Ah, but that would depend on what family you're talking about...since the the child swap from what I understand is good for up to four people. I have a hard time believing that in all the time the child swap has been taknig place and the many many people who have utilized it, that not one has ever had the child ride more than once. I'm sure there are plenty of CMs who have looked the other way.

I don't have children so I haven't been involved in either practice, but people get away with a lot of stuff...I just choose not to get worked up about it.

The child swap and this are very different.

Child swap is 4 people waiting in line. 2 parents, 1 child who will not ride and 1 child who rides twice. Total number of people waiting is 4 and total number of rides riden is 4.

This swap is 3 people waiting in line. 2 parents and 1 child who only goes through the line once. Total number of people waiting is 3 and total number of rides is 4.

Since the child is bypassing all of those in line ahead of him so they can join the second parent I'd say it's wrong and cutting in line.
