Is This Crazy?

If you are staying at the Chateau, I am assuming it is Chateau Lake Louise? This is a Fairmont Hotel and Banff has Banff Springs Hotel and Jasper has Jasper Park Lodge. All owned by Fairmont and all beautiful (or so I am told, never stayed at any of them). Banff and Lake Louise are very close around 30 mins apart, but Jasper is a few hours north of Banff.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. Have you considered coming over to Vancouver Island?. Butchart Gardens is really nice, also Long Beach/Tofino is beautiful at this time of year.

Also, have you considered taking the train up to Banff or Jasper. (Via Rail).

PM, me if you want any info on Victoria.

Hi Smeecanada,

We are definitely planning on the ferry over to Van Island but don't know which day of our 3-4 to fit it in. We would love to see the Gardens.

Also have heard of the seaplane flight and this sounds great but expensive.

When are you thinking of coming? There is nightly entertainment all thru July/August at the gardens. Also, fireworks on Saturday nights. It's fairly close to the ferry about a 20 minute drive. From downtown - where the seaplanes land it's probably about a 45 minute drive or more depending on traffic. The ferry ride is beautiful and the ships are fairly nice.

Here's a few url's for you.

There was a company last year offering a passenger boat service from downtown Vancouver to the gardens. I'll need to dig around and see if I can find that info for you.

Also, another option for Vancouver is Granville Island Market. Real interesting place to visit - farmer's market, unique shops and restaurants. Fun in the summer.

Play around with www.kayak.com at least you can find out who services the route (s) you are considering?

I just got off a cruise..met some great folks from Scotland. They Came via Chicago to Orlando to meet some old friends...spent a couple of days...then they continued to friends in Kissimmee and spent 5 days. Went on the Cruise (7 days) and then back to Kissimmee to the friends for another 5 days. Then they left, flew via Dallas and spent 2 days there with yet more friends! They just emailed, finally, they are home!!

If you can dream it..you can do it!! LOL

Wow. Cutting the planning a little close:). Butcharts is really nice right now with all the spring flowers just coming out and the cherry tree blossoms. Pack a raincoat - it's that time of year. Short sleeve shirts are a good idea as well, as it's getting a bit warm during the day. Evenings and mornings are still cool. Sunscreen is a good idea as well. Have a great trip.

FYI - ferries only every two hours on the odd hour at this time of year.

Thanks Smee,

I was wondering about clothing. I've packed tee's to layer them; a fleece top; jeans, shorts, running shoes. I'll pack my rain coat but do i need a wool lined coat for the rockies or can i get away without? I seem to have a lot of clothing?!

I'm doing, Vanocuver, rockies and ottawa.

Cheers,

K

As long as you have several layers you should be fine. It still could snow up there at this time of year, but it won't be endless days of it or bitterly cold. I'd bring a sweater/sweatshirt type - good on the plane as well. I would be going at this time of year with a gortex raincoat/fleece lining and shirt. I don't think you'll need a really heavy coat. One pair of shorts should be fine - unless you live in them like my DH. It's not really shorts weather yet - but we get the odd day that it's nice for a few hours to maybe warrant shorts

Have a safe trip.

SO I"M IN LAKE LOUISE NOW!

Just a quick catch up to all those who've helped plan this. I know this isn't Disney but hope those in charge will let this run.

I've seen beautiful Vancouver, Wild Whistler and drove through Kamloops to LL. The lake is frozen over so no blue colour.

Cheers,

K

Glad you had a great trip!
December and January in Ontario can be cold and snowy or not depending on the year they have.
